Henrikson also is part of a federal civil case in which he and his wife are being asked to turn over land in the oil patch and $640,000 in cash. That case alleges mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering. Authorities believe Henrikson and his wife executed a scheme to defraud various investors and individuals in states including North Dakota, Texas, Florida, and Washington.

Bakken Well Speculator Charged With Murder

James Henrikson and Doug Carlile dreamed of getting rich off the North Dakota oil boom. Now federal prosecutors have accused Henrikson of hiring a masked gunman to kill Carlile in his kitchen in Spokane, Washington, last December.

Henrikson, 35, orchestrated the murder of Carlile, his partner in a hydraulic fracturing or fracking venture, according to an indictment unsealed Sept. 17. Henrikson, a felon with drug and weapons arrests, also is charged with arranging the murder of a trucker who vanished in 2012. He faces the death penalty or life in prison.

As Bloomberg News reported in June, both men invested in a 640-acre parcel in the Bakken oil fields, where drilling has brought newfound wealth and also a sharp surge in crime. Henrikson and Carlile had a falling out over the land, and Carlile became increasingly frantic to raise $400,000 that he said he needed for the deal, witnesses told Spokane police.

[h=1]Former tribal attorney helps find those missing in the Bakken[/h]

Her first search was 2 1/2 years ago. Multiple friends forwarded Yellowbird-Chase a link to a Facebook page created by the mom of 29-year-old Washington native Kristopher "K.C." Clarke, who's been missing since Feb. 22, 2012. He was last seen at his workplace, Blackstone trucking, in Mandaree, N.D.

Clarke has not been found, but Blackstone trucking owner James Henrikson, of Watford City, N.D., was indicted in September in Washington state with two counts of murder for hire, among other charges, in connection with Clarke's death.

In a September plea agreement, James Henrikson admitted to an interstate murder-for-hire plot to kill Kristopher "KC" Clarke in February 2012 in North Dakota and Douglas Carlile in December 2013 in Spokane, Washington.

Henrikson withdrew the plea last month after a judge ruled he was not made aware of the mandatory minimum penalty of life imprisonment his crimes carried prior to entering the plea...

Henrikson has now pleaded not guilty... The trial was slated for Jan. 25 in Richland, Washington.

Lissa Yellowbird-Chase may be the only person from North Dakota taking unpaid time off from work to sit through the trial of a man accused of hiring the murder of two men during the Bakken oil boom.

Others — including former Three Affiliated Tribes chairman Tex Hall, his companion Tiffany Johnson and New Town oil businessman Steve Kelly — are subpoenaed witnesses in the trail, but Yellowbird-Chase says that, by observing quietly in the courtroom, she may learn where one of the slain men is buried.

The trial of James Henrikson, 36, started Monday with jury selection in a Richland, Wash., federal courtroom... The trial is expected to last several weeks, with nearly 100 witnesses and the introduction of detailed cell phone logs between Henrikson and his accomplices and other evidence.

The man who carried out James Henrikson’s alleged murder-for-hire plots testified in federal court Friday as the trail began. Timothy Suckow took the stand Friday...

Suckow testified that he was under the impression he was going to North Dakota to “intimidate someone.” Henrikson told Suckow he had a problem with somebody and wanted him to beat him up. Suckow said he was talking about Steve Kelly... Then, Suckow began to talk about what happened the day KC Clarke was murdered...

“James was rather insistent, I guess you could say, on the murder,” said Suckow. He explained Henrikson’s idea was to lure Clarke into the garage area and draw his attention to the far end of the shop. Suckow said Henrikson told him to kill Clarke by choking him.

Henrikson defense attacks witness credibility, moves for acquittal

In its first chance to attack the case presented by federal prosecutors, James Henrikson’s defense team questioned the credibility of a key witness and offered a conflicting account of one of the alleged murder-for-hire deaths.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Aine Ahmed and Scott Jones rested their case Monday morning after nearly four weeks of testimony from dozens of witnesses implicating Henrikson in the deaths of Kristopher “K.C.” Clarke and Doug Carlile. The defense team immediately sought to discredit two of those witnesses, Timothy Suckow and Robert Delao, in offering their case to the jury.

Maybrown and his colleague, Mark Vovos, have filed a motion for Mendoza to acquit Henrikson of the murder-for-hire charges, which carry a potential life sentence. Defense attorneys say the prosecution didn’t present enough evidence to show that Henrikson intended to have Clarke and Carlile killed, and that there was no contract in place as to how much he would pay Suckow.

Mendoza told both sides to be prepared to present closing arguments Tuesday.

Spokane murder-for-hire mastermind James Henrikson sentenced to two life sentences

Following statements from the victims' families and a bizarre statement from James Henrikson himself that included reading three poems, quoting song lyrics and speaking on the topic of abortion, a judge sentenced Henrikson to two consecutive life sentences for the 2014 murders of KC Clarke and Doug Carlile, plus additional time for other crimes.

The judge told Henrikson his statement Tuesday showed "a complete lack of remorse."

The defense said in court Tuesday that they will not be appealing the sentencing.
