I think that may be his sister. She was sitting with the dad. It’s interesting that his brother didn’t want to testify and say the mom’s family came to the house and made threats and hasn’t been sitting in the courtroom. Also, how come his family isn’t sitting right behind him? I’d be really curious about this family’s dynamic. JMO

Was this CG's sister Kimberly in court today? Corey looked like her.

I agree the father didn't help him much and the DA did a good job on the cross examination. All I got out of the testimony was that grandpa took care of Corey more than his own father.
Yep a defacto custody by the gf, using cg as the tool.

I don't understand why the pros is not going ahead to present the defendant's attempt to change testimony of a witness. Judge said, if I understood correctly, that could stand alone without the recipient, ie the mother testifying. He even referred to at least one precedent that ok'd admission apart from the impacted witness testifying.

Then he blew a bunch of smoke and said Galluci this, Galluci that, as though G had been so cooperative in strategically withdrawing her as a witness.
But G is subjecting the court to lots of wasted time trying to use those bodycams to show how nice CG was when they finally caught him fleeing.
Why does pros let him get away with creating the image of cooperation when he just tried to coerce a witness?

Well that is the big question of the morning, imo.

I haven’t caught up with this afternoon’s hearing but from what they said earlier and the comments here I think this bodycam or lapelcam from the Tennessee officer(s) is a nothingburger. Defense is trying to dispel the flight aka consciousness of guilt issue. There’s nothing the defense can do to get away from the fact that he left his dead child in the hospital and left the state! Gimme a break! Who cares if he was calm once he was stopped in Tennessee? What was he gonna do at that point? Have a shootout with the cops? He’s cooked! Didn’t Dr. Baden testify at the Michael Peterson (The Staircase) trial as well? And OJ trial too, right? He’s gonna say the child had sepsis. But he never examined the child and all the medical professionals who did said he DIDN’T have sepsis. Or Pneumonia. Yeah….it’s a wrap Chrissy boy!!

JMO
Not only that....there was convo with LE that stopped him about Texarkana? California? Guess with no car and cell phone CG HAD to call home for help.....

IANAL but the state can’t call a witness just to get in hearsay conversation. It has to be relevant and for impeachment. They can’t just call his mom to be like “so you had a conversation with the defendant last week, let’s play it.” JMO

But it's not hearsay. Completely recorded by LE with phone#, voices of 3 people. Just as though some big shot defendant in jail called a buddy to tell him to change testimony. I think the judge said the recipient of the call did not have to testify, essentially turn the defendant in. It was illegal for the defendant to contact any witness, iirc. Seems to me the jury would take that very seriously. Why is he trying to change testimony of the mother? Well no legal eagle here, just sounds completely biased to me. Committing an illegal act while on trial and trying to influence someone else to act illegally too. Everyone following the case and especially the jury should hear just what he was trying to influence.

Catching up on the afternoon hearing now and it’s already off to a bad start….again the parties are so unprepared. The state is showing the judge the video and the transcript she gave him doesn’t match. I have never seen a trial this sloppy. Unprepared attorneys and so many scheduling issues. Why didn’t the state push the trial date to accommodate this expert witness? Sorry I’m just ranting but it’s annoying me again as I watch them scrambling.

ETA: So this is a couple days or a day after his son has died and he’s just shooting the ish with LE like it’s nothing. He’s not distraught or upset. And defense thinks this helps them?

ETA (2): Oh so one of the officers said he was shaking like a leaf and there’s many references to his previous arrest for weed. Judge says this doesn’t help the defendant. What’s Galluci smoking? He’s desperate because he can’t put up the defendant.

My understanding, again IANAL, is that anything said outside of the courtroom is hearsay even if it’s recorded. And what counts as evidence is only what’s said in the courtroom on the stand under oath. There are many exceptions to hearsay though.

Aside from the hearsay issue though, in this instance the defendant is not being charged with witness tampering. So I believe the state can only introduce evidence that goes to prove the elements of the crime charged. So there’s a relevancy issue as well. If the mom had testified, then it would come in for impeachment, which is an exception to the hearsay rule.

TOMS RIVER - Christopher Gregor, on trial in the murder of his 6-year-old son, telephoned his mother Friday to coach her on what was expected to be her testimony before a jury on Wednesday.

Gregor persisted in trying to instruct his mother, Carolyn, how to testify, despite both his parents repeatedly telling him to stop, according to attorneys and the judge presiding over the case.

The phone call, which was recorded, occurred after Carolyn Gregor testified in court Friday, outside the presence of the jury, for Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan to rule what, if any, of her testimony would be admissible to the jury.

So, a few takehome messages from today.

David Gregor says he contacted Gallucci (bully lawyer guy) in JULY 2021 when Christopher was out hiking on a retreat with Laura, and officers came by to arrest him for the child endangerment charge. He said he was advised to get Christopher into town asap and once again he did, jumping in to get his son a rental car. (Does Christopher not have his own credit cards???? I was renting my own cars for trips by age 26! But i digress.)

This was 3 months after Corey's murder.

1. So we now know Family Gregor had hired Gallucci WELL BEFORE any murder charge was filed, quite possibly he was the attorney hired in April! Daddy David knew he needed a high profile, sharpshooter of a lawyah and he got himself the best money could buy...

2. How are we even talking about a girlfriend of a dude who physically leaves the hospital as his own son lay dying? Choices, ladies! Choices! I just hope none of his paramours end up having to testify in court.

3. Alcoa, TN police pulled him over, impounded his car, took his phone. Done and dusted. We don't need to know details on this at all unless he tried to evade capture or was belligerent towards LE.

4. Doesn't Tennessee have airports? Why the need for all that driving? Laura flew in to Tennessee. Why couldn't the two just fly back? Why did Laura fly out there to begin with? Nonsense!

They were pulled over.... TEN - FIFTEEN MINUTES AFTER LAURA ARRIVED TO THE AIRPORT.
THIS IS THE TEXT LOG:

4/4/21
9:38am to Laura
On my way!

11:17am to Laura
I'm heree

Around 11:31am (per the lapel cam from today)- pulled over by Alcoa Police for speeding in front of the Pizza Hut in Alcoa, TN.

To be fair I lay NOOOOO blame on this girlfriend. She's lucky to make it out of the relationship alive tbh. I just wonder how Christopher manages to entice these ladies into his orbit! Ick!

Gallucci over his head on this one....and ME not coming in for the defense, only Dr B.

How do you defense the indefensible.

Personally I dont think CG would have come home...he was headed to Mexico or California, I guess his GF is from CA. Had to change plans without cell phone, money or car. He then called mommy. imo

The mother signed an Against Medical Advice document. Most mothers of small children that I know would follow the advice of an ER doctor.

JMO
There is no medical reason to use an ambulance to transport a reasonably healthy child to another facility for an evaluation of some bruises. You are determined to find fault with Mom, but you are way off base. Bottom line, she took him to the abuse specialist on her own, and he was evaluated, cleared, and released to go home. Back to the killer. There was nothing else she could do. She did everything she could possibly do for her son, outside of kidnapping him. That would have been foolish. Your argument is pointless.

No medical reason? The hospital required the mother to sign a document acknowledging that she refused the hospital recommendation for emergency transport and withdrew the child Against Medical Advice.

If you want to believe the child only had bruises and was a reasonably healthy child, that's up to you but I have seen no evidence in this case to indicate that is what took place and it totally contradicts the recommendations of the Hospital ER doctors. There has been testimony the child died hours later. There has also been testimony that the mother admitted to arranging to buy meth drugs for herself after she returned the child (hours later) to his father who did transport the child to the hospital ER and it was too late to save the child. I do believe the Jury is paying attention.

I have had family members who were transported by ambulance to regional medical centers--because their condition was unstable--and they were admitted and they survived. I can't imagine any parent of a child taking them to an ER and then rejecting the ER physician's advice.

Well. Time to take a gig at Grandpa's testimony. Obviously, Grandma Gregor has been knocked out of the game, she was a dicey contender even before she was snookered by Chris in that call from the cell. Naturally, Chris would have wanted to direct Mama's testimony, what a dummy to do it over the recorded phone service. This is almost Dunning-Kruger level of inept.

So far, it's a long ramble of Grandpa and how great a Grandpa he was, it's almost as if he was watching himself all these months being a supergrandad... look at moi... look at moi... on and on. Waits for the bus, goes thru the school bag, packs the lunch, reads the notes, searches for instructions, throws balls, bats, whatnots, Wakes the kid up, dresses him, irons his shirts, ties up his shoelaces, on and on.. repeat, repeat.....

Then they get the call, THE CALL that ends all calls. After checking out real estate, etc as one does...

And,.. grandpa says , just like grandma, that Chris was Hysterical, Hysterical. We don't know if they were hysterical.
A long story of how Grandma and Grandpa organise everything, rental cars, directions, instructions, demands ,, all the trappings of what they think is executive action.. None of this has any impact on Chris, who takes off for Tennessee, leaving his small son to die alone , in a hospital room.

Oh this is too much.. Poor Jury..

It just occurred to me that Chris, his mum and his dad all thought that Chris had got away with it. They really did. It seems part of their attitude of being offended by this whole shindig.. How dare the state of NJ put his son thru the wringer..!!..

And now the prosecutor. Grandpa takes a few backwards steps... he is very very cross at being cross examined, and cross examined by a woman, .. it is almost intolerable to him, and Grandpa cannot contain his fury. Ridiculous.

Grandpa has no idea of his presentation and how it comes across. If the idea was that Christopher Gregor could slip in behind the jet stream of Mum and Dad, and their spoken narrative about their own wonderfulness, I just don't know. NJ doesn't seem to be inhabited by idiots, generally speaking, so a NJ jury would , I think, not cop this sort of subterfuge, where reflected glory takes the place of first person testimony... surely not.
