I cant come up with an event that impacted so many people in our nation

that is just numbing to me

I've been trying to do the same thing to put it in some sort of perspective, because it's overwhelming. These two stick out to me because I remember them so well.

1995 Chicago heat wave
led to 739 heat-related deaths in Chicago over a period of five days

1992 Los Angeles riots
four days: 63 Deaths, and 2,383 injured

Can someone link to the NBC news article where he was in a lawsuit with the Cosmopolitan in 2011?

I felt the same way watching the news tonight, and there was something about the person reporting from Las Vegas that was just... I don't know how to describe it. So human, clearly in pain, keeping it together throughout the report. It was another part of cementing it as real in my mind. If that makes sense.

My oldest niece had a friend killed.
Jordyn Rivera.
She turned 21 a few months ago.
Didn't even get to live her life yet.

I am so sorry for the loss to you and your loved ones :(

is this gun trafficking? 47 is truly astounding

Is there some Philippine and usa gun thing

I dont think so. Gun running to the Phillipines would be logistically hard, but not impossible. My guess is that illegal weapons in the Phillipines originate far closer to home and includes the Phillipino police / security forces as a source of "lost" weapons.

There are some indications that the shooter was having money problems and that he turned to an all American lawsuit as a source of income rather than gun running. Evidently, the shooter was involved in a "slip and fall" lawsuit at a casino that was settled (probably for a nominal award to the "victim"). This is a common lawsuit for gamblers down on their luck, .

A federal law enforcement official earlier said there were at least 20 rifles in the suite, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition, including two rifles outfitted with scopes and set up on tripods in front of two big windows. Another official said that among the weapons were AR-15-style assault rifles. Both officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge details of the investigation.

Sheriff Lombardo said that Mr. Poddack brought in at least 10 suitcases into his hotel room over a period of time.

Earthquakes, Katrina, 9/11 :(

And for every person in those figures there are friends and family who are worried, mourning, going to be affected by the long-term damage to people who were there :(

I don't have the words for it...tragic, appalling, I can't think of a word that conveys what it is.

Agreed. Let's not forget Dust Bowl, Ike, Sandy, Harvey, Irma, and Maria.

Can't wait to find out what the girlfriend has to say.

For some reason the second hotel room is starting to nag?

exactly why would he need two rooms -- with his arsonal and both rooms had more than ample view of area

it is not like they were on opposite sides of hotel ?

For a few events.. OKC Bombing, Tulsa Race Riot, 150-300 dead 800+ injured. When you go back into the 1800's you had a lot of massacres. You also had the KKK's campaign of violence that left 3,000+ dead between 1865–77

Maybe so he would have a place to hide (and possibly continue to shoot) if they found him. Or maybe he wasn't sure what sort of view or angle he would have until he got into the rooms.

Do we know if the rooms connected to one another? So he could move freely between the two without going into a hallway or public area.

The fire on the ship Slocum killed hundreds in the early 1900s in NYC. (We honestly could go on forever.)
