So, the latest information on Matchbin tells us that Steven probably had help getting that job too. And,it also likely tells us that Steven really did seek to move to St.George.
Is it possible that Steven had met GW before he actually moved down to St.George ?

I am sooooo glad someone finally mentioned loan sharks! I have thought this from the beginning but figured it had for sure been mentioned and I must have missed it somewhere. I have thought so many times that it was a very logical explanation, though I still have very strong suspicions of GW.. Maybe they go together! I don't know, this whole thing drives me crazy but I think he is a perfect candidate for a loan shark, has anyone checked to see if GW is involved in this kind of stuff?? Who knows... :banghead:

From some of the articles , I read about loan sharks they can be appear legit , did you
read the one link ,,with the comments. People without money wanting a loan shark so they can get back on their feet. When I watched the video of Steven it seemed like he was hesitant to go to where ever he was going. What if he got money from a less reputable source, and some middle man was collecting the payment. And Steven does not have it. Some of these loan sharks can resort to violence. All the articles are scary.

hmmm?

what COULD make a person vanish? VICTIM OF FOUL PLAY

WHAT could make a person want to vanish? SAID PERSON IS PERPETRATOR OF FOUL PLAY

HOW could said PERPETRATOR VANISH really really well? PERP HAS A LOT OF HELPERS TO AID IN HIS VANISHING ACT

what is the meaning of FOUL PLAY? thats up to the reader.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX but not for a victim but instead for a VICTIMIZER

HHHHMMMMMM?

Just watched those two security videos of Steven again. Is there any chance the time could be wrong on the cameras? It's supposed to be noon, but the shadows seem too long, like it's later in the afternoon.

I don't know Steven, but he just doesn't seem to have the personality that would knowingly victimize someone.

I should clarify what I said earlier.

I said anyone who needs a public computer to look for jobs is a loser. We know Steven owned one so if he was job hunting at all, I would think he would do that with his own computer. If he did not know that free wireless signals can be picked up all over the place, then no wonder he was unemployed.

As for my reference to him being a nobody, most ordinary citizens would fall into the 'nobody' category in terms of usage of a computer in a public library. About the only things that come to mind that would justify LE examining a hard drive of a public library would be to find child pornographers, terrorists, or people using those computers to perpetuate computer fraud - sending out viruses or worms or credit card scams.

LE and the public libraries of this country could not give a hoot if John or Jane Q Public used a computer to further a personal effort to date other adults or disappear.

Yay! I had to figure this out, and was hoping someone would let me play Ms Wizard.

Dec 13th is only about a week before the winter solstice, when the earth's axis is tilted further away from the sun than any other time. The sun is about as far south on its axis as it will get, and the shadows you see are pointing "northy" appropriately.

Rolf Koecher said the sole charge on Steven Koecher's credit card came from the Web site godaddy.com, but his activities there were linked to companies the family knew of in the Bountiful area that Steven had advertised with.

He had secured part-time work doing various jobs for a home service company and had been told by his LDS bishop that they'd find him a job by the first of the year.

This is some new info. Seems like a little bit comes out at a time.

Fabulsgirl,
Good find about the new cc activity. But, it looks like it might be a recurring charge for advertising services ? GoDaddy is also a domain purchasing and registration service....

That's one of the GW questions that was answered. "Unlikely"

It sure does.

But it's confusing.
So Steven was advertising WITH a local company.... and had his own domain? I thought he was working FOR the local company, soliciting ads from local businesses onto the matchbin/Clipper website.

So...he was selling matchbin website advertising and had to advertise WITH someone to do that. Maybe they required he worked as an "independent contractor" (sigh).
I almost wish I knew none of that; I wouldn't be trying to figure it out ;)

We also find out in that news article:

The Christmas presents were "a bib and four cookies" (Naegle described them as ornaments, and I'm sure they were the kind of cookies that you could hang on a Christmas tree).

There were "numerous job applications" in the car? HUH?

We knew there was at least one window-washing flyer.
But actual job applications?
An application is a formal document....WHO was he applying to?
(Wouldn't knowing the names of companies he was applying to, help figure out who else he may have applied to????)

The reporting is maybe a bit off ? Every other source has indicated that he bought a baby girl's bib and Christmas ornaments at KMart. Don't know how the cookies are suddenly there ??
I don't think the GoDaddy cc thing was domain related, unless Steven was into buying and selling domain names as a get rich quick scheme. More likely it looks to be a recurring cc payment. I really don't get the advertising with local companies thing, unless it is part of the "marketing services" Steven was doing for the window washing/blind cleaning business ?

Yup. A recurrent (annual) website domain registry renewal.

But why would he have those charges on his personal credit card?

We know he was doing website/advertising for matchbin. Selling websites to and online advertising to local businesses, etc. Wouldn't the registration and financials be ther responsibility of the business or matchbin, rather than Steven, personally?

The wording makes it sounds like Steven was the one advertising himself.

It would surely tell us the type of employment he was seeking and where!

Remember the long post I did last night, about how matchbin fit into The Clipper? Look at his Linked profile, too. Look at clippertoday.com and the local advertising there.

Steven was selling online newspaper advertising and websites, for matchbin.

One thing I have noticed is that information is leaked out one small bit at a time. This is a media gimmick to hold people's interest IMHO. While I certainly do understand the reasons for this, from the family's point of view, it also can be frustrating at times.
