Identified! NV - West Reno, Human skeletal remains, Jun'11 - David Williams

My feeble Google skills didn't turn up anything one way or the other regarding whether or not Koecher owned a Rolex. Could the Rolex be phony? I wonder if Reno PD bothered to verify the watch's authenticity.

What a pity that this skeleton is partial... At 5'10, Koecher was a fairly tall man. With an impartial skeleton, this man could be ANYONE. The NAMUS page lists an estimate of 70 inches, so Koecher can't be ruled out; but with no skull, who knows?

Here are some missing men whose MP profiles list Rolex watches.

He has been gone a long time, but he is missing from out west. Foul play seems likely, but whoever did it didn't bother with expensive jewelry in Young's car. If this is our guy, it would make sense that they also did not take his watch.

He seems a bit tall for our guy, and Texas is far, but not THAT far (I once drove from Albuquerque NM to Reno and I forced myself to make in in a day)

His write up seems to indicate that whatever misfortune befell him happened in Chicago, but you never know...


I REALLY want to get a photo of the UID's Rolex... I will email Rudolph Bein at WCSD and see if I can get some info on this guy and the Community College UID while I am at it

Who is the Community College UID?

I am assuming that LE ran the serial # of the gun and would state the results?

I just looked on the find Steven Koecher FB page at the pics and there are only a couple that actually show his arms to see if their's a watch but unfortunately they where of him doing some kind of construction and playing volleyball so not sure if he has a rolex.

I was at school the day police found this body and have been disappointed to see that not much has come out about this decedent.

Here is the email I sent to Rudolph Bein, Washoe County Sheriff Death Investigator. It is my first email to LE, so don't be shy with the feedback :)

Mr. Bein,

I am a local citizen and a volunteer amateur sleuth. Some of my friends on websleuths.com have been discussing these cases and want to give these people their names back. I have a few questions that we would really appreciate your input on.

Mogul John Doe:
Is a photo or description available of the Rolex?
Has the Rolex been determined to be authentic?
Was the Ruger loaded? Any indication that it had been fired?

I really wonder if this man could be Lee Young, missing from Scottsdale, AZ. Has this possibility been investigated?


TMCC UID:
Is there any indication of foul play?
Were any belongings found with or near the body?
Was gender ever determined?

I know, I should have included the case # for our John Doe, but I didn't think about it. Hopefully Mr Bein will know who I am talking about based on the questions.

Rudy usually responds to emails pretty quick, he's a good guy.
 
Charlie, you were right about Rudy! He emailed me today to ... wait for it ... ask for the case numbers! LOL. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will hear from Rudy again tomorrow.
This was my first email to LE, so I am REALLY excited. I feel like I am really making a difference! I hope that this giddiness doesn't ever get "old." What a great and fulfilling hobby I have found!
I'm still thinking about Lee Roy Young for this JD. I always find it odd when a height range is given (in Young's case, 6'1"-6'2") and wonder if the person who reported them missing had just totally guessed about height. If that's the case, I bet a lot of matches are being missed because height is "off." How sad...

I'm positive this is true. If you asked me how tall my kids are, I'm not sure I could tell you exactly. In fact, just yesterday my son (age 18) told me he's 5'10" and I would have sworn he was 6'1". All I really know is, he's taller than me.

I don't know how tall my sister is. Again, I could guess within a couple inches, but nothing concrete.

I definitely don't know how tall my friends are other than "taller than me" or "shorter than me", so depending on who filed the report, I could see it being off.
 
I heard back from Rudy Bein today. He has good news!

We have a tentative identification for this case and it is not Mr. Young. We submitted bone for DNA and it will be several months before results are completed.

Tonight, I had a weird feeling about this one. My neighbor has been missing since 1990 and if Namus didnt show 2001-2010 as the dates I would wonder if this was him

He sent a note to his brother in Pinellas Co,FL saying he was going to jump into the grand canyon and kill himself. He was in Arizona at the time. Although Arizona is near Nevada I can't imagine that he would have made it up near Reno to do this. Just gave me the chills that's all.

Did your neighbor own a Rolex? Is he the type that would want one (or a fake one)?

Yes,he was the type to have a rolex. Bobby, was a famous boat racer, a heir to a candy family, and I believe (according to my dad) married to a foreign actress at one time. SO he definately could have afforded a rolex and I do remember him wearing a watch all the time, just like my dad wore a watch (his was fake rolex lol).

I don't think that this is the same UID.

The news article indicates that Dana was found on May 11, 2011. The UID who is the subject of this thread was found on June 14, 2011.

Also, Dana was located "five miles northwest of Verdi near Crystal Peak". The UID who is the subject of this thread was found near the corner of Mayberry Drive and Plateau Road. These two locations are about 10 miles apart.

On 06/14/2011 at approximately 1200 hours, a college student was researching birds in a wooded area when he found the decedent's skeletal remains. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene. A Ruger 22 semi-automatic handgun was found near the remains. The skull was not found.

Trousers, one sock and four blankets.

22 caliber Ruger semi-automatic handgun (Serial # 244837).
DNA tests are not complete.
