Staten Island man still under police surveillance

Pabon didn't make any statements to the media and seems to have grown accustomed to the knot of plainclothes cops who have gathered on the sidewalk across the street from his home since Sunday. At around 9 p.m., Pabon, dressed in shorts, T-shirt and a Yankees cap, casually walked over to the group, said he was going to get some chicken, and led a small procession of cars to the restaurant and back again.

I sure hope there is a little something under her nails for DNA....w/ all of his scratches. We can only hope. I sure pray they get this scum. That poor lady. She was beautiful and her family loved her. So sad. :(

I live very close to where this crime occurred. This poor woman.

This creep Pabon did it. He has scratches on his arms, neck, and hands and left work early the night she disappeared and called in sick the next day. Five police cruisers have been stationed outside his house in Staten Island and are following him everywhere, day and night. LE knows he did it; they're just playing their cards carefully and waiting for enough forensic evidence to come in to arrest him.

Pabon had been making unwanted advances toward her for awhile. He lured her to the 8th floor, raped her I imagine, and then to keep her quiet put her in the air conditioning duct - alive. She no doubt died a slow and painful death. Also, the air conditioning duct in which she was found is on the 12th floor of the building, and Pabon was the only one in the building at the time she disappeared with a key to that floor - apparently that floor was out of use and full of air conditioners.

This jerk needs to be locked up forever, no parole. And I hope he gets "Bubba" for a cellmate. I love that his girlfriend and sister are saying he wouldn't hurt a fly, he is a sweet man, and that the police are just 'harassing him.' Give me a break. He did it. He'lll be arrested any minute now.

Hi Mia! I agree - I think there will an arrest any day now. Everything so far leads to him. He couldn't look more guilty - literally.

Yesterday, an undercover cop who's part of the NYPD team tailing Pabon followed the elevator operator and his girlfriend, Lisa Marie Blumenberg, into a cellphone store on Forest Avenue in Staten Island, never letting them out of sight.

Pabon's lawyer, Mario Gallucci, said his client has "nothing to hide."

He said Pabon voluntarily gave cops a DNA sample on July 8, when they grilled him for 25 hours.

"His DNA is not going to be on the body," Gallucci said

Elevator operator arrested in NYC tower killing
By TOM HAYS (AP) – 38 minutes ago

NEW YORK — An elevator operator at a skyscraper near the World Trade Center site was arrested in the slaying of a cleaning woman whose bound body was found stuffed in an air conditioning duct.
Joseph Pabon was taken into custody at 7:30 p.m., NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said. Police pulled him over after he left his Staten Island home in a car with two other people, Browne said.
Charges were pending, he said. Pabon's attorney, Mario Gallucci, didn't immediately return a telephone message Friday
Browne said earlier Friday that DNA evidence had linked the elevator operator to the killing of Eridania Rodriguez, whose body was found with a gold crucifix taped to her mouth in the Manhattan skyscraper where she worked.

The victim, Eridania Rodriguez, was found bound and gagged last Saturday in an air-conditioning duct at 2 Rector Street, four days after she disappeared during her regular evening shift in the building. Detectives had suspected the operator, Joseph Pabon, 25, and kept him under surveillance as they awaited the results of DNA tests on skin that was found under Ms. Rodriguez’s fingernails.

On Friday, those tests indicated that the DNA belonged to Mr. Pabon, who had scratch marks on his body when he was first questioned, said Paul J. Browne, the chief spokesman for the Police Department.

Sources tell PIX News, crucial DNA evidence came back with a glove that was found at the crime scene a centerpiece.

......

Since the discovery of Rodriguez's body, forensic teams and the Medical Examiner's office have been sifting through evidence, including hair fibers on the tape wrapped around the vicim's head, hands and feet. At the same time, unmarked police units have been following Pabon's every move, comically at times. One source vowed "he'll be dreaming of detectives tonight."

Pabon's attorney, Mario Gallucci, said his client is innocent. "He looks forward to the day when he has an opportunity to fight these allegations in court," Gallucci said

Why do defense attornies always say that phrase about looking forward to court? LOL! Is that taught in law school? Do they really think the reading/listening public believes that anyone looks forward to being tried in court for murder:rolleyes:?

An elevator operator at a high rise near the World Trade Center site was arrested in the slaying of a Dominican-born cleaning woman whose bound body was found stuffed in an air conditioning duct.

Pabon voluntarily submitted to DNA testing during questioning after Rodriguez' body was found July 11, Browne said. Blood leaking from the ventilation shaft led police to the body at 2 Rector St., a 26-story office tower a few hundred feet from ground zero.

Murder Rap: How They Got Joseph Pabon

Police department chief spokesman Paul J. Browne said DNA tests Friday allegedly connected Pabon to skin found under the victim's fingernails

Thank you for caring about this case - it is local (downtown manhattan) and has really touched many here. The victim reminds me of so many hard-working immigrant people in this town, just trying to make a better life for themselves and their kids.

Please overlook the horrible ny post-style headline on this link. It did contain some information I hadn't seen before - that she pressed hard enough to LEAVE A PALM PRINT on the perp, and that she was found with a GOLD CRUCIFIX TAPED TO HER MOUTH.

RIP Eridania

What a complete and total idiot. Did he really think he was going to get away with this?

Prayers to her family and may Eridania rest in peace.

The suspect broke down in tears when detectives asked him to think about the victim's family and their need to find Rodriguez's body and bury it, sources say.

Pabon, 25, pleaded not guilty through his defense attorney in Manhattan Criminal Court to two second-degree murder charges Saturday. Witnesses say he repeatedly wiped away tears as he waited for court proceedings to begin.
