Wow. As someone who has a missing family member, I'm speechless. So I'll just say that sometimes all a family has for help are the "armchair sleuths". And oftentimes when a case goes cold and LE moves on and friends/family have to get back to their "normal" lives....all you're left with is "armchair sleuths". The family may someday need help. Whether that be just bouncing a few ideas around, or with getting national attention (real attention, not that of some "journalist" who owns the newspaper he writes for), or with search organization, or whatever. So in my own experience, it's best not to burn those bridges. Perhaps the "journalist" could do some real investigative reporting and look into how many families forums like websleuths have helped? And the Doe Network....aren't they mostly made up of volunteer "armchair sleuths"? I could go on and on listing the ways "armchair sleuths" help on a daily basis, but I don't want to take away the "journalists" future writing opportunity. So again, I'll say from one person who has a missing family member to another....please, don't be so quick to judge and write people off. Especially those who want to care and help.

And on a side note, in my experience-Facebook is the lowest of the low when it comes to "armchair sleuthing". 9 times out of 10, all you're gonna end up with is drama, and sometimes worse. I had a serious nutjob on my sisters page, and it was not fun and it ended up taking LE's time away from my sisters case in order to track down the creep. He wasn't an armchair sleuth, he was a facebook user.

As a sidenote, I believe that certain people may love the fact that a journalist refers to people trying to help as "armchair" detectives.

It takes the heat off them and they can agree to badmouth someone else.

JMO.

Search and rescue team just deleted their FB posts about 1) coming to Chenango County and 2) spending a long day out on their snow shoes (or something to that effect).

?????

this really gives me pause... i think they are playing with someone so they can watch what they do in response... something is afoot me thinks....jmho

If anyone did any real investigating, they would learn that the cases here at Websleuths.com are all closely watched by LE, all the time here. LE watches WS for various reasons, certainly one being that the minds here are brilliant and DO help solve crimes, therefore, WS does help LE.

Any news on Jennifer today?

Haven't heard anything about Jennifer today, other than "I haven't heard about Jennifer." I went to both local convenience stores/gas stations in town, and neither one had a flyer up. I asked why there were no flyers, and one clerk pointed to a half empty bulletin board and said "No one gave us any." Ditto for the second. I then went to the home of a person who's child I work with, and she hadn't heard of Jennifer's case either. SAME town!

I drove around for hours, and was sad at the thoughts I had while viewing all of the vacant homes all around that area, from New Berlin (her hometown) to the Norwich-Plymouth area (where her car and phone were found). From mobile homes to once grand homes boarded up and vacant. I thought, "What if she's in one of these buildings?" Many are on GR's jogging route(s). (please delete if stating that last sentence violates rules here).

Other than all the abandoned homes, forests are everywhere, as are dirt, rock and sand quarries. Also concerned about all of the seasonal roads in the area. They're not passable by car now due to snow, but they were on 12/11. Some of these roads have just a couple of houses on them and are used just during the summer, if at all.

Most of hunting season ended on 12/08, and it didn't snow until around 12/21. Plenty of time for her to be placed in one of those buildings, or in the woods, without leaving tracks in snow. Just my mind going in that direction, I know.

Still praying for her...

Wow, nice spot Jillian.
I found one picture, while googling around that name, that I don't really want to say anything about as I'm not even sure it's related and what on earth it means, if anything, even if it is. But a lot of people here are a lot better at finding things on the Internet than I am so maybe somebody else will have better luck!

Though on second look- apparently efrerfe is a common string of nonsense letters (who knew some strings of nonsense letters are common!) so it's entirely possible that while joining some database sometime he just typed whatever into a box and it somehow wound up online as an aka.

Journalism at its finest.

"Despite that out of whack feeling, Christmas and New Year’s Day were both a great time, spent with the family up on Prospect Street. It’s not too often we manage to get all four of us together (my mom, stepfather, grandmother and I) outside of the holiday season, and it’s always a pleasure, particularly when you consider mom’s home cooking. Sure I don’t mind living off Hot Pockets and Byrne Dairy subs throughout the week, but a home cooked meal is something you won’t find this reporter turning down very often."

Really? Hot Pockets? Mom's home cooking? Who cares! And he bashes discussion on topics that really matter in a community? Sheesh.

I think I would call him an "armchair journalist."

I found it on anywho.com, listed as an alias. I can't find if/where he's actually used it though.

Anyone else find a photo? I was googling efrerfe, on its own- there's a picture that looks like it could have some link but I'm just not sure if the person in it is who I think it is or just looks a bit alike.
