Identified! NY - Orleans Co., WhtFem 697UFNY, 20-23, Oct'83 - Shari Ball

Looking at the dental on this Jane Doe; She has a tiny space between her 2 front teeth and a class III occlusion:

card-8854985-back.jpg

hair dimensions: 30 x 20 x 11 cm in overall dimension which is 11.8 inches x 7.87 inches x 4.3 inches. 11.8 is not what I would call Long- about to shoulder depending on neck length. Hair color is brown- Head hair color is lighter- I'd say due to youth, sun , or dye. Hair could be curly due to exposure. Wisdom teeth not erupted should be a younger individual- but mine did not come through until I was almost 23

Body could be mummified ( preserved ) by the high content of salt and lime in the soil.

Route 63 is accessible from the NYS Thruway; but where she was found is closer to Route 104 that runs
from Monroe County into Orleans. Where she was found is South Gravel Road- on the edge of the Refuge.

I don't know if 2mm could be characterized as "tiny". That's a pretty noticeable gap (i.e., about wide enough to slip a quarter between her two front teeth).

I'm sure you're correct about it not being tiny when you're talking gap- it just seems like 2mm is so small... anyway

multiple harris lines are usually from sporadic malnutrition or illness, not chronic.

Airplanelamp - submitted this UID to OPP Resolve as a possible match to Mary Frances Gregory (as requested by you in pm).

Reply today was it has been forwarded to investigating officer.

May I please ask again was it about 5 months since this Jane Doe died? Who is saying this? Who are they saying is on her case now?

According to NAMUS the estimated postmortem is 5 months. This is as of October 2012.

By definition mummified means shriveled up. I am no expert on mummification but I understand if a body is left in a hot dry climate and there are no animals to consume it the body will mummify.

So there was shriveled skin on this decedent. It was probably exposed to the elements throughout the summer of 1983 before it was found.

Thank You very much.

I just found out the Jane Doe found in Batavia New York October 29th 1983 is not my sister Tammy Lynn Leppert through DNA. They told me they did just now recently Identify this Jane Doe. Information about that Jane Doe and who they Identified her as should be out soon. They said she was Shari Lynne Ball.

They had exhumed this Jane Doe a little while back to get MTdna on her.

-Slender build
-In photo's she appears to have blond/brown hair
-Cannot tell for certain but one of the photos looks like she might have a gap between her teeth?

Wow...you had it! I follow these cases only a little as it takes a lot of concentration, determination and patience of which I have very little.

Did Wanting2Help ever call in Shari Ball as a PM?

I'm glad she is identified after 30 yrs. I never forget by her face reconstruction (stay in my mind for long time) from the Rochester newspapers in 1984 for their effort to ID her while I was college student there from out of state. I thought she comes from 1950-60's life based on the hairstyle they created for and her being undiscovered for years before someone found her. I miss out the correct info about her by case manager in those years. But I'm happy to find out she got her name back & comes from farthest home state.

Just wanted to point out that Wanting2help posted this on New Years Eve 2012. Good work; that is Websleuths at its best.

Well done Wanting2Help for picking up on Shari back in 2012. Great work. Even if it is not a "Match" technically, I'd say most of us would consider it one as you were absolutely right.
