PELOSI TRIAL SHOCK

By KIERAN CROWLEY, SELIM ALGAR and CYNTHIA R. FAGEN

December 13, 2004 -- A mysterious bleached blonde threw the Danny Pelosi trial into turmoil yesterday after she clasped her hands as if in prayer and mouthed the words, "Not guilty, not guilty" to startled jurors.
The woman, who wore tight jeans and a fur coat and had liquor on her breath, claimed to be a "close friend" of the defendant.

The leggy, middle-aged woman, who told the judge her name was Melanie Covitz, was ejected from the Suffolk County courthouse in Riverhead, L.I., and escorted to her car by court officers.....

Jury concludes second day without verdict in Long Island murder trial

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island jury concluded its second day of deliberations Sunday without reaching a verdict in the murder trial of Daniel Pelosi, accused of killing his lover's estranged husband, millionaire banker Theodore Ammon.

The jury began working at 9 a.m. Sunday and deliberated for about 12 hours before leaving court for the night. The judge asked jurors to return Monday at 9 a.m.

During the day, jurors heard readings of testimony of Pelosi's sister and some of Pelosi's own testimony about the night Ammon was killed.

On Saturday, the panel of nine women and three men reviewed phone records and reheard the testimony of a key prosecution witness who said Pelosi admitted the slaying to her three months after Ammon was killed.

Pelosi claims he was at his sister's house in Center Moriches, 40 miles from Ammon's mansion in East Hampton, when the slaying occurred in October 2001.

Prosecutors say Pelosi killed Ammon because he was angry over a proposed divorce settlement presented to Generosa Ammon, the millionaire's estranged wife and Pelosi's lover....

Jury in Pelosi Case Continues to Deliberate
By PATRICK HEALY

RIVERHEAD, N.Y., Dec. 12 - Jurors deciding the fate of a Long Island electrician accused of killing a Manhattan financier completed a second day of deliberations on Sunday night, adjourning at 10 p.m. without reaching a verdict. They are to resume work this morning.

The Suffolk County jury of nine women and three men spent Sunday reviewing crime scene photographs and listening to earlier testimony from the defendant, Daniel Pelosi.

Mr. Pelosi, an electrician from Manorville, faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of murdering the financier, R. Theodore Ammon, in his East Hampton home.

On Sunday, Mr. Pelosi sat silently here in State Supreme Court as jurors were read a transcript of his earlier testimony and testimony from his sister Barbara Lukert....

GUILTY of 2nd degree murder. Verdict announced today, Monday.

Alright! At least this jury didn't waste any time although it was a much shorter trial. I'm glad that justice was served on that cocky *astard.

Pelosi found guilty of 2nd-degree murder

Daniel Pelosi was found guilty today of second-degree murder in the bludgeoning death of millionaire Theodore Ammon.

Pelosi stood to hear the verdict, crossed himself, closed his eyes and lowered his head. When jury forewoman Deborah Erickson pronounced him guilty, Pelosi sat down in his chair at the defense table, his face red, he appeared to be fighting back tears.

State Supreme Court Justice Robert W. Doyle set sentencing for Jan. 25. Pelosi, who was indicted on the second-degree murder charge in March, faces a sentence of 25 years to life.

As she was leaving the courthouse, juror Rosemarie Brady said, "We're glad it's over. We feel good about the verdict."

Brady wouldn't comment on the evidence or what convinced jurors to find Pelosi guilty. "I'm relieved it's over," Brady said. "It was an emotional time for all of us and we just want to get home and be with our families."...

Oh, Danny boy! Pelosi found guilty

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Daniel Pelosi was convicted Monday of second-degree murder in the death of Theodore Ammon, a Manhattan investment banker who was savagely beaten three years ago as he slept in the bedroom of his $10 million East Hampton mansion.
The jury of nine women and three men deliberated about 23 hours over three days before reaching its unanimous verdict after an eight-week trial filled with tales of adultery and family betrayal....

i think it is pretty messed up that the jury found him guilty! i have been to see the trial a number of times, and in my opinion the only thing the prosicution proved from this case is that 2 mens families and the to men themselves(ted ammond & daniel pelosi)have to suffer for something they didnt do. i think in my opinion hearing testimony, there were alot of people who weren,t looked at. as for the father, blaming the death of one son on the other is crazy! i wonder if he feels any better now that he helped himself loose another.

Michael Dowd, Generosa's lawyer, has come out with the truth: That Generosa confided in him that Danny had killed Ted.

DANNY PELOSI WAS FOUND GUILTY BECAUSE HE IS GUILTY!!

DA made Pelosi his own worst enemy

BY ANDREW SMITH
STAFF WRITER

Daniel Pelosi's eagerness to talk to people about coveting millionaire Theodore Ammon's money, his willingness to kill Ammon for it and his description of doing it helped transform a completely circumstantial case into a conviction, lawyers and legal experts said.

And Pelosi's decision to testify in his defense -- even though he admitted nothing -- gave prosecutor Janet Albertson the opportunity to put his character on display for jurors and show them that what she had said about him was true.

"I think Pelosi was probably his own worst enemy," said Stephen Scaring of Garden City, a defense lawyer and former chief of the Nassau district attorney's office's homicide bureau.

"He's not the most likable character," said Alafair Burke, a criminal law professor at Hofstra University and a former prosecutor in Oregon. "He was cocky, arrogant, angry."...

DANNY PELOSI WAS FOUND GUILTY BECAUSE HE IS GUILTY!!
That is pretty interesting, because last year on national television he said he didn't think danny was involved at all.

I think everyone should be very afraid if this is our justice system. If Danny Pelosi can be found guilty with only circumstantial evidence and a bad reputation we all better watch our backs.

It is our civic duty to serve on a jury, but not to condemn someone for past mistakes, brash behavior and a loud mouth...this does not a murderer make.

Shame on them. I hope they live spotless lives.

That makes TWO first time posters coming in with their trash the jury claptrap.

If you followed this trial even through the limited info that came to us through the newspapers, then you understood how and why the jury reached the verdict they did. Go to the Newsday links and read the article on what the jurors said. To me they sounded very fair and serious about their jobs

Who the heck are you, Sammy?? What the heck do you know? SHAME ON YOU!!

Such a general criticism... you sound like a typical know-nothing NG to me. He was found guilty in a fair trial, defended by an excellent attorney paid for by the man he killed. Get over it.

Not worthy of a reply...get a life and stop judging others that you know nothing about...

ok..can't help it...Lisa...the murder weapon and forensic evidence against Mr. Pelosi were......help me understand since you seem to know....

oh yes and the article i read it seemed as though Mr. Pelosi was guilty until proven innocent...hmmmm thought it was supposed to be the other way around...

I think the problem is what you say lisafreemont, the limited info that was printed in papers like the NY Post. I beleive that says it all...I would love to read the transcripts of this trial would be an interesting read wouldn't you say. And are 1st time posters not allowed an opionion???

The 14k *hole was convicted on CE. Alot of the time CE is very compelling.

Here are some juror quotes from the article in NEWSDAY:

"We were trying to prove him innocent," one juror said, asking that she not be identified. "We said this is another human being. We have to allow the same amount of time. By God we did. We did our darndest."

"There was just no way," the juror continued. "There were too many things we couldn't overlook. Too many things we couldn't resolve."

I don't believe that someone could follow this trial and read what the jurors said and then bash them. Or at least they couldn't do it fairly.

I see responses that are just like the blind know-nothing NGs who defend Scott Peterson. Circumstantial evidence is EXCELLENT evidence. There is nothing substandard about it or a conviction based on it.

What I also don't see (and I will except shopgirl from this as she has made detailed posts of her opinions) are reasoned posts. I see some posters who just make blanket statements that bash the jury. And I think that stinks. I am also suspicious of such posts when they bear the #1. First-time posters who are serious usually introduce themselves. These are more typical of trolls.

Of course, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. But where is it? This is just jury-bashing of the worst sort. And there is absolutely no discussion of the evidence therein. And I will bet there won't be from these posters either.

Again, shopgirl, this is not directed at you.
