Baby Elaina tapes: ‘I put my hand over her mouth’

“I’d hate to have to bury my daughter at a year and a half,” Angela Steinfurth told Toledo police in June 2013.

Months later, detectives learned that her missing 18-month-old daughter, Elaina Steinfurth, was dead, but she had not been buried. Instead, her body was in a box in the rafters in Angela’s ex-boyfriend’s garage.

In police interrogation videos obtained by WTOL, Angela Steinfurth and ex-boyfriend Steven King are seen repeatedly denying under intense questioning that they had anything to do with Elaina’s disappearance.

In another police interview in September, however, Steven King told a different story.

“I put my hand over her mouth and suffocated her,” King said. According to WTOL, he told detectives that killing Elaina and hiding her body in the garage took 20 minutes, and that Angela watched over their other children while he did it.
