COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after falling from the stands at Ohio Stadium during the Ohio State University commencement ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Ohio State confirmed that one person fell from the stands of the stadium near the Bell Tower during graduation and that police and emergency responders remain on the scene.

Around 12:30 p.m., a person fell from Ohio Stadium's stands near the Bell Tower just as some of the last graduates filtered into the stadium via a tunnel, according to university officials and an eyewitness.

"An individual fell from the stands. They are deceased," OSU spokesman Ben Johnson said Sunday in the university's initial confirmation of the death. "We have no additional details to share at this time. Police and emergency responders are on scene. For anyone affected by today's incident, we will make counseling and other support resources available."

Police and university officials released no additional information about the death as of 8 a.m. Monday. Johnson said Monday morning that the university could not release details about the identity of the person who fell, including age, gender or whether the person was a student.

The Franklin County coroner's office said Monday that it is still trying to determine the victim's identity.

Decedent was female. Not sure what to make of the 4th quoted paragraph, BBM:
“I think a student fainted and like people were screaming and it was just like it was just a panic. Like everybody was surprised what they saw,” said Suhaib Abudulwahed, an OSU graduate.

Abudulwahed was at OSU Sunday afternoon for his younger sister’s graduation. But before he could even make it to his seat, he and dozens of other witnesses saw the unthinkable.

“I didn’t process what it was at first.. then I was like, that’s a person who spiraling down,” said Abudulwahed.

A woman fell to her death from the top of one of the buildings outside of the stadiums as they were all walking in.

“All the graduates that were walking by the gate, like she fell right next to them,” said Abudulwahed.

I was local to the area so I still have a ton of mutuals there - and at first, it was being reported that she jumped. That has since been updated to "fell" with no identity. It's curious

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office identified the person as 53-year-old Larissa Brady. The coroner's office said she was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m. by the Columbus Division of Fire at OSU Football Stadium.

From the University's newspaper:
...police "do not suspect foul play or an accidental fall"

[Larissa] Brady's daughter was listed as a graduate being honored with a bachelor's degree at Ohio State on Sunday, according to the university's 2024 commencement program.

Ms Brady fell as the last students were filing through the tunnel so that scary fall event was before her child received her diploma. What kind of statement is this for it seems so cruel for the graduate to enjoy the bliss of earning her degree coupled with the pain from the unusual death of her mother?

Nothing new in this article, other than LB was a GA resident.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman who fell from the stands to her death during a graduation ceremony at Ohio State University last weekend has been identified as a Georgia resident, authorities announced Tuesday.

Johnson said police do not suspect foul play or an accidental fall.

Johnson said counseling is available for those in the OSU community who need support. He said students should call 614-292-5766 and press 2 for immediate assistance after hours. He said faculty and staff should call 1-800-678-6265.

"If you or someone you know is experience suicidal thoughts or in crisis, we urge you to contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by dialing 988," Johnson said.

Where did the accident happen?

Police taped off an area on the southeast side of Ohio Stadium Sunday, near gate 30 where Ohio State football players enter the stadium. The incident happened near a tunnel that students used to enter the stadium for the ceremony that is normally reserved for OSU football players during home games.

Looks like the authorities feel this was possible self-harm ?
How sad if so.
Condolences to all affected.

Update from the Columbus Dispatch:

Brady had suffered from mental health issues and had attempted suicide at least twice before, most recently earlier this year, according to the coroner's office. Her husband told investigators that she had not been compliant with her medications.

Brady then went into the stadium with her husband and 12-year-old son to sit and watch the ceremony, according to an investigative report from the coroner's office. Once seated, Brady then told her family she wanted to move higher into the stadium and her family told investigators they lost sight of her.
