Attorneys for Chancey Luna, who’s charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of Australian baseball player Christopher Lane, filed a motion Thursday arguing adjectives like “thugs,” “thrill killing” and “bored” to describe the crime during trial would be prejudicial...

Luna’s attorneys also objected to discussion of prior conduct by Luna by the prosecution, according to court documents...

Luna and Jones’ trials are set to begin in front of District Judge Ken Graham in April. There will be a hearing to consider additional motions by the defense and prosecution on April 1.

Oh boy, we are hearing the same thing today. What the heck are they thinking of saying then .. if not that it was a thuggish thrill kill committed by bored teens?? What other excuse are they going to try to use for this inane murder? Michael Jones himself said that they did it because they were bored.

"The teenager accused of firing the fatal bullet into the back of Australian baseball player Chris Lane as he jogged along an Oklahoma street wants the words 'thrill kill', 'bored' and 'thugs' banned from next month's murder trial.

The motion filed by 17-year-old Chancey Luna's legal team in the Stephens County court is the latest legal move ahead of the trial."

Jones told investigators: “We were bored. We wanted to hurt or kill someone. He was the target. That’s it.”

One of three US teenagers charged over the 2013 death of Australian baseballer Chris Lane has pleaded guilty.

The murder trial of the three teens is not due until next month, but Michael Jones decided today to enter a guilty plea to second-degree murder.

Jones begged for forgiveness as he was sentenced to life in prison.

Jones will not be able to apply for parole until after 38 years at which point he will be 56.

The other teens will face court next month, charged with first-degree murder and accessory in the first.

THE lawyer for 17-year-old Chancey Luna has admitted in a US court that the teenager shot Australian baseball player Chris Lane dead.
Luna’s defence lawyer Jim Berry dropped the bombshell during jury selection in the Stephens County courthouse in Duncan, Oklahoma, on Tuesday.
Mr Berry told potential jurors that prosecutors would have to prove that Luna shooting Lane was premeditated.
“He shot him and Mr Lane tragically passed away,” Mr Berry told the court.
Mr Berry has previously said evidence from a co-accused, 16-year-old James Edwards Jr, pointed to Lane’s death as an accident.
In his opening statement, Mr Berry said Luna “shot the gun to scare the jogger,” insisting there had been no plan or premeditation but the shooting had been a horrible judgment call.
Assistant district attorney Cortnie Siess told the jury that Luna deliberately pointed a .22 calibre revolver and shot Lane in the back as he jogged along a Duncan street in August, 2013. “He intentionally pulled that trigger,” Siess said.
“He hit Christopher Lane in the back.”

An Oklahoma jury has found 17-year-old Chancey Luna guilty of the first-degree murder of Australian baseball player Chris Lane.

The jury also decided Luna should be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Luna showed no emotion at the jury's verdict or the Lane family's pain.

However, as he left the court and was led to the adjacent jail, Luna told reporters he was "sorry".

They only took an hour to reach their verdict. I am so glad for Chris' family. I hope this brings them some peace and they can begin to heal.

Oklahoma's youngest murderers can no longer be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole unless they are found to be "irreparably corrupt and permanently incorrigible."

A divided Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals established the new restrictions in rulings made Friday in two high-profile murder cases.

(...)

In the first case, the appeals court ordered a resentencing for Chancey Allen Luna, now 19, of Duncan. He admitted to fatally shooting an Australian jogger in 2013 in Duncan.
