Lackawanna County Sheriff Mark McAndrew suspended a deputy who let convicted killer Neil Pal talk to his mother while en route from State Correctional Institution at Graterford to Lackawanna County Prison.

Deputy Paul Nardozzi is suspended without pay for 60 days because the phone call violated the sheriff’s office’s written policy on transporting inmates and was “a major security breach,” Sheriff McAndrew said Monday...

The incident happened after a jury found Mr. Pal guilty of first-degree murder, plus a related conspiracy count, as an accomplice to triggerman Jason Dominick in the execution-style slaying of Dunmore resident Frank Bonacci.

Judge Nealon has tossed the appeal for Neil Pal. Neil will stay put in prison.

Judge Nealon found Mr. Pal’s actions “before, during and after” the shooting were sufficient to establish that he aided Mr. Dominick in the murder. Those included isolating the victim alone with him and Mr. Dominick, providing transportation to the murder site and furnishing the weapon used to kill Mr. Bonacci.
While Mr. Pal “knew full well” that Mr. Bonacci was dead, his post-murder concealment of the crime provided further evidence of his intent and state of mind, the judge said.
“Pal feigned ignorance of Bonacci’s condition or location and acted as though Bonacci was still alive,” Judge Nealon said. “Pal attempted to perpetuate that ruse by attending Bonacci’s wake and participating in search parties for him.”

Not sure I get this, because I thought Neil Pal was denied his appeal.

The article has deadlines dates for both killers to appeal.

Attorney William Costopoulos said Friday he will file a brief in support of appealing the life sentence imposed on Neil Pal by the May 11 deadline.

Attorney Bernard Brown must file his brief supporting Jason Dominick’s appeal by May 20, Mr. Brown said. A judge allowed an extension on April 16.

Pal's appeal has been denied by the PA Superior Court.

A three-judge panel in a 20-page decision rejected a series of appellate points raised by Mr. Pal’s attorney, William Costopoulos, which included assertions that Lackawanna County Judge Terrence Nealon, the trial judge, abused his discretion in not granting Mr. Pal’s request to move the trial outside of the county.
“We were confident that Judge Nealon authored a very strong opinion which was supported by the facts at trial and the law,” First Assistant District Attorney Gene Talerico said.

Neil Pal resides at SCI Greene, Supermax, for his life sentence.
