You can give a date-rape drug for something other than sex and rape - if you want the person to relax, feel somewhat euphoric, complicit, a bit groggy - maybe he offered his room for Stephany to sleep a while all in the name of stealing her $5,000. It didn't work for him. moo

This is Stephany's case. I hope we can stick with her. I would like to know more about her.

I understand what you are saying......... but actually this thread is about Joran, we should start a thread for Stephany. :innocent:

Me too Beyond Belief. I think about her mom and how devastated she must be. Have we heard about her sibs except for her brother who spoke out today?

My sister in Paris is married to a Peruvian and they are a very family orientated people. I wish for all of her family and friends God's grace to help them heal from this tragedy. xox

Hi, Panthera. At least one account described Stephany as a lesbian who was grappling with her sexuality.

She might have gone to the room because she didn't want to go to her father's.

I think that Joran invited her to the room for the money, not for sex. Though she's a sweet looking young woman, she doesn't seem to match his known preferences. Even in Aruba, Natalee was decidedly not his first choice.

Both of them had been drinking, one assumes, at the casino, and Stephany probably also imbibed with her friends earlier. After the verbal dispute with her father, she might have been drinking more than usual. Perhaps she celebrated a bit more after she won the money at the casino.

I'm certain the blood alcohol rate from her autopsy will tell us more.
Hopefully since this is in Peru we will still hear more about the autopsy, and toxicology results. I think I'm really going to have to brush up on my Spanish since most of the articles will be coming from there. As we found out last night, Google got a little confused with some translations. :) I also agree though there may have been more than one motive for him to get her into the hotel room. MOO

please enough with name calling or using name variations on any players.
TO's will be given after a review of the thread for those that insist on breaking the rule.

Self editing is always an option.

LOL where this post lands is entirely random. thanks.

I did check some of SF's friends on facebook, there were some from Amsterdam.

Here's that translation of a quote from Joran's friend again:

"He asked me several times to send money, and had (own words), in all states, and quite depressed. He said small amounts (to eat), and was quite angry when I refused to send. He actually said funny things to do, because nobody wanted to help.

It is an accumulation of frustration, for that moment (the lack of money in a distant, foreign country), but his total life. It was all too much to him.
I say to this, the quarrel and argument with the girl was probably about money. His priority at that time was nothing like sex, and he was irritated by the fact that nobody wanted to give him something."

I wonder if he didn't have the starting money for the poker tournament he was supposed to enter.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this beautiful young woman whose life was snuffed out prematurely.

I have never said this in any other case before, but IMO, JVDS WILL be convicted and WILL go to prison. This case is going to have a large international audience and prosecution will do everything necessary to get a conviction. As for the 25-35 year maximum sentence, again IMO, I think that's irrelevant because I don't think he's going to survive that long.

Just chatting with a friend and she had an interesting thought:
If he was this brutal with this girl, possibly with Natalee, and the Kalpoe's witnessed it, or the aftermath, she's not surprised they wouldn't open their mouths as long as Joran roamed around freely.

I wonder if they have the knife and whose it was.

Greta will be on in a few minutes, maybe some new information will be shared.

This is all so unbelievable. (Unbelievable as in it is hard for me to digest so much info all at once, not that it is not believable.)

I don't think there is any way I can possibly catch up with everything that has come out since my last post. lol - I think it was less than 12 hours ago, but it seems like it was more like 12 days so much has happened.

Welcome to Websleuths! ;)

Greta's on will get to Joran in a few minutes. She will talk about the twist in the case which is prob. the extortion, and a live report from south america.

With all due respect to those that feel the topic should be focused or limited to Stephany and this particular crime and less attention paid to Natalee Holloway or the extortion aspect...

Of course I'm most interested in Stephany Ramirez and the horrible crime JVDS has committed on her and her family. I want to learn as much as I possibly can about her, her family, JVDS and how this came to happen. Just as I do in all cases I follow.

Many of us followed the Holloway case from the very beginning. Our hearts broke for Natalee and her family - just like they break now for Stephany and her family. We invested a lot of emotion and frustration for five long years while it appeared there would be never been any justice.

I want justice for Stephany and her family. I've also waited a very long time for justice for Natalee and her family. It's all relative. It's how we got to where it is today. So please don't begrudge us discussing this aspect of the case. I don't feel it's in any way disrespectful or takes the focus off the current events.

As to the extortion... it's a very big factor in the case, IMO, and will play a big part in how it all unfolds.

:twocents:

I love all the pictures of Stephany and her friends. She looks like the girls Joran hung out with in Aruba. How could he do that to her?!
