CNN Live: about 15 min ago - JeanC Live in Peru
HLN Live: few min. - JeanC Live in Peru

JeanC:

- he did come out of the hotel> to the convenience store (either next door/across street - didn't catch which) at the gas station to purchase coffee and bread
- meanwhile, she started to go through his laptop
- she confronted him upon his return>led to an argument
- she wanted to leave (JeanC speculates - kidnapping charges?)
- SHE HIT HIM FIRST - SLAPPED HIM
- he hit her back
- he grabbed her by the neck
- he had MARIJUANA in his system when he attacked her

Well here's my epiphany--he's full of it! Hey, she started it! What is he, 5 years old?? My guess is since being under the influence of marijuana was enough for the Dutch court to excuse his last confession, he may think it's enough for the Peruvian Court to excuse his murder.

Patty, please don't hold your breath.

I'm not ... gave up a long, long time ago. Just want justice for Stephany with all the focus on Stephany. Anything regarding Natalie's case, they need to deal with it in Aruba and stop jumping on the back of Stepany's murder.

Of course, that is my frustrated opinion only.

Until toxicology tests come back (and are then disclosed to the media) we won't know if SFR was drugged at all. How she entered and walked into JVDS's room, her demeanor, really doesn't tell us much. I mean, at 5am, after a night of gambling (and possibly some drinking) I would imagine one might be tired.

If you look at the surveillance video of outside the casino - she is walking fast but not very graceful. The more I look at the videos it makes me think that is how she walked - kind of teeteering from side to side. Maybe wearing heels and can't walk that well in them. I think the teetering in the hotel video is exaggerated because the video is slow?

They talking May 6 in Colombia, does the FBI report differ on the date of him leaving Aruba on May 13?
Can we see a stamped date on his pastport?

She could have had a couple of drinks too! :)

HLN Update: JeanC Live in Peru (with last live report)

JeanC: LE in Peru will NOT confirm if an attorney was present with VDS at all times during his confession

- his confession will be a mitigating factor in sentencing

WOW! Columbia......2 missing girls......casino..........I just thought the worse.
What are Columbia prisons like???

Happy he was never allowed on USA soil!!!

As far as ARUBA vs USA............the LE of ARUBA corruption killed their tourism
all by them selves. I loved ARUBA and the people. Went all the time on vacation.
After NH never stepped foot on that isle again...........
murders happen every where, but ARUBA let Paulus have to much influence, JMOO.

in my opinion

the hand wringing over the possibility that he may somehow work out a lighter sentence isn't necessary. imo there is little (none) chance they are not going to put him away for as long as he lives.

while I understand that $$ can buy a lot of stuff in prison, imo NOTHING is going to go well for JVS in Peru. and this includes amenities bought with Mommas money. i think the Peruvians are really upset that he has come into their country and allegedly killed a daughter of a prominent family.

also It seems to me some commentators are kinda missing the point that this is not America, where $$$ and a good lawyer and a jury picking expert can get you out of a lot. This is South America, not Southern California.

I read somewhere that JVS was crying to his mom on the phone about how unsettling (my word) the legal system is in Peru, That I believe. i believe that he was crying to her about it.

Karma'-Peru style.

"Before arriving in Lima on May 14, the dutchman Joran van der Sloot was in Colombia, where he arrived on May 6. What did he do during those days in the neighboring country? The same thing he did here, visiting gambling sites.

However, his visit coincided with the disappearance of two young colombian women who also were frequent visitors of exclusive casinos.

"During those days (the dutchman) visited gambling sites in the city of Bogota, as seen on security videos of these casinos. We know he stayed in two hotels, that is why the police of our country started investigations", stated Colombian reporters to officials of Dirincri, as told by a local newspaper."

This Colombian thing is curious to me since supposedly, he was in Aruba until May 13. That alone is why Greta thinks the FBI screwed up by not grabbing him for the alledged extortion. So, I don't know, the reporters need to get their stories straight.

About the only date I remember is May 10th when the first intital $10,000.00 was exchanged and then he left Aruba on May 13th.

There was no indictment for a crime meeting the standards for extradition. Short of kidnapping him the FBI had no ability to grab him.

"he had MARIJUANA in his system when he attacked her"

Marijuana does not turn a person into a crazed karate chop murdering lunatic.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered...and with no disrespect to the victim here, but can the FBI have access to JVS and speak with him about Natalee's disappearance? The fact that the two crimes are so eerily similar (at least the circumstance around how they met), and the fact that Natalee was a US citizen who's never been found, can't they get involved in questioning him?

HOLY MOLY!!!!! I just got home and have so much catching up to do! On to reading this now. :woohoo:

Yes, you can break a neck with a "karate chop" if you know how to. You don't have to be big and strong like Joran. I can do it with my martial arts training and I am a petite woman. Perhaps Joran had training while in Thailand or elsewhere. On the last thread I believe it was Patty G who posted that she doubted that Aruba could ask for a longer sentence in Peru (hope I paraphrased that correctly). My understanding is that it was reported that the Holloways could do so. In some countries you are allowed to introduce evidence of uncharged crimes at the sentencing phase of a criminal conviction, my guess is that this is what was being referred to.

her brother (or her cousin)said on tv that she was mutilated beyond their ability to identify her, including a missing eye. not exactly a quick karate chop kind of scene. but if JVS said he killed her with a quick chop, who am I to doubt him?:banghead:

Did he gamble all the extortion money away???

HLN said the recreation of the crime of Stephany's murder was called off because of SECURITY hmmmmm..........JVS life being threatened???

So how does this jive with the extortion plot? Didn't money change hands on the 10th?
Sorry, I'm confused.

From your link:

Rebuilding the murder of Flores Stephany Ramirez (21) at the hands of citizens Dutchman Joran van der Sloot (22), as part of the police investigation was suspended this afternoon due to the large presence of national and foreign press, reported Channel N.

It was learned further that the murderer's mother, Anita van der Sloot, have arrived in Peru to support her son, who yesterday confessed his crime and could face up to 35 years in prison if it is determined that planned the death of the young. But if you are charged with manslaughter for backlash, the penalty could be less than five years .

WTF!? Five years?! Grrrrr...

Do they really think the media is going to back off this story?

Haven't you seen Reefer Madness?

Seriously though, I hear you, but it can cause psychotic breaks in certain individuals. I know a bipolar that has psychotic espisodes anytime he smokes pot.
Not saying this is the case AT ALL. Just making an observation.
