Hwy T in Butler/Wayne counties to close
www.kfvs12.com
Hwy T will close today, according to the Army Corps of Engineers. An alternate route in Butler County is County Road 514 and in Wayne County the same road is called County Road 517. It's also called the old Iron Bridge Road.

Is an intentional breach of a Mississippi levee a good idea? How will they control how much of the levee gets eaten away by the surge of water? Idk... here's the article that tells of the okay.

I'd say not. Setting off 265 tons of explosives right on the New Madrid earthquake fault (which is overdue to produce THE Big One anyhow) is not my idea of a good solution to anything.

There are also several hundred lead mines in this area, as welll as numerous gas pipelines. I'm just not convinced that the Corp of Engineers or anyone else can do this with enough control over the explosion and the millions of gallons of floodwater.

Wow, what a situation! Praying for folks along this waterway...

Lots of road closures in the area. City of Cairo has been evacuated as of last night. Flood record of 1937 was broken today.

No decision yet on whether officials will activate Birds Point New Madrid Floodway Plan. However, they are another step closer today. The vessel with the explosives is set to position at Birds Point at 3:00p.m. Sunday. New record high at Cairo. River at 59.86. New forecast for crest is 61.5 on May 4th. Officials say this is putting an enormous amount of stress on levee systems.
