His story about Laura Smither is improbable. He gave two versions with different endings. Both begin with him driving his truck on a rainy morning. He was trying to fix his windshield wipers (from inside his truck?) and heard a thud. He got out of his truck to see what happened and 1) he saw her lying dead in the road with her head twisted almost all the way around 2) he saw her screaming in a ditch for help, walked over to her, grabbed her face to get her attention and heard a pop in her neck, and she died.

How fast was he going on a rainy morning to hit someone that hard that their neck would either snap or be that easily broken by just touching her face?

His story about Kelli Cox is that he bumped into her in a gas station parking lot in Denton and she spilled soda on him. They called each other names and he 1) shoved her against his truck, breaking her neck 2) strangled her in the gas station parking lot and then drove all the way to Brazoria County after noticing she was unconscious and hoping she'd wake up.

Kelli Cox had locked herself out of her car and was looking for help. She was at a disadvantage here based on her situation and her size, so why would she be confrontational? And how would you either fight someone or strangle them in a gas station parking lot in broad daylight with no one noticing?

His story about Jessica Cain is that he was eating at the same Bennigan's and they got into an argument in the parking lot over door dings which lead to road rage. This culminated in them both stopping on the shoulder of I-45 to "fight" and he strangled her between the two vehicles.

Why would a 17-year-old girl who was planning to study criminology in college and who was seemingly a model student and citizen argue in a parking lot with a strange man who was much larger than her, participate in road rage, and then stop on the side of a freeway late at night to fight with him? How would people not notice him strangling her between the two vehicles on the side of the freeway? The story is completely unbelievable.

Why would the Texas Rangers and Friendswood PD believe anything that came out of his mouth? These scenarios are ridiculous, especially considering his abductions of Sandra Sapaugh and Anjanette Sorrentino and the stark contrast in their stories and his stories of the girls he says he murdered. He also apparently abducted and raped two teenage girls during this time, who were able to convince him to bring them back home and broke into a woman's home and raped her. After the rape, she convinced him to let her use the bathroom, she turned on the light and saw his face, and then escaped out of a window for help. These three women testified in the death penalty phase of his trial in OK.

It just doesn't add up at all. We know that prisoners have been able to communicate (Anthony Allen Shore/Larry Swearingen), so I find it plausible that he would agree to confess to someone else's murders, which couldn't be otherwise disproven due to degradation and absence of evidence, in order to attempt to avoid the death penalty in OK. We know Friendswood PD has been pressing him for years about Laura Smither, why not just give them what they want?

A very common tactic used by those when being interviewed is to "blunt" the truth ...IE they admit the action, but deny the intent

In some cases, theyll blame the victim

"Yeah we were nude and in the shower, but all I did was give him a hug from behind "... Jerry Sandusky

In some cases its done as a form of control in others they really believe they can outsmart the police .

Why, just because they've finally been caught, would a serial killer be expected to tell the truth? Seems to me it would serve them much better not to and to muddy the waters every way they can. They would gain nothing by being honest. And since most are all about control this is their only way of maintaining it.
