Reporter disguises as priest at Schumacher hospital

I am hoping for a miracle. Come on Michael, you have one more race to win. True champion.

Yes, he was a great driver - perhaps the greatest. He will never be forgotten. In his last year, he was still running at the front, racing against drivers half his age.

I think he must have heard you.

'Michael Schumacher is showing 'moments of consciousness' after months of unconsciousness, his agent has said.'

"We are on his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble", Mrs Kehm said in the statement.

"We would like to thank you all for your continuous sympathies", (Kehm said).

'He remains in the "wake up phase"......But Gary Hartstein, a former Formula One doctor, says that "awakening" would mean that Schumacher has opened his eyes.

"This eye opening can even be cyclic, following what looks just like a sleep-wake cycle (even if not synchronised to real day-night hours)," he said.'

He goes on to explain what a 'minimally conscious' state is, and how that is the best that can be hoped for at the moment.

:woohoo:

Family statement in full:

'Michael has left the CHU Grenoble to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is not in a coma anymore. His family would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months. The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes to Michael. We are sure it helped him. For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye.'

The hospital is close to Michael's family home on Lake Geneva. I wish him and his family well on the long road ahead.

U just saw it on the news too, Zwiebel. I'm so glad to hear he's out of the coma. I hope his rehab will go well.

Um. I understand this report okay but wish I didn't.

What is it with this Dr Harstein? He seems to be totally against the family having a hope, and even hinting there's some conspiracy going on? I don't get it at all.......

Well it's not only him and I tend to agree with their opinions. Dr. Tipu Aziz in the same article says 'The fact he was in a coma for so long... we can assume that he has had quite a bad injury. People don't tend to make a full recovery from that sort of injury.'

I think these specialists want to caution people against having false hope and making more out of the latest announcement that he's out of the coma. The truth is, he might recover somewhat but a full recovery is unlikely.

I understand that Michael might be severely brain damaged, but that doesn't mean he can't lead a happy life. It might be harder for family than for him, and maybe that's what the Dr is trying to say.

I just don't think he's put it very well.

Yea maybe. He seems quite blunt and a bit insensitive.

Michael Schumacher 'medical data offered for sale'

Medical files purporting to relate to F1 legend Michael Schumacher are being offered for sale, his management team has warned.

Manager Sabine Kehm said it was unclear whether the documents were genuine.

But she said they were "clearly stolen" and warned that criminal charges would be pressed if such "confidential files" were bought or published.

Yes we would all like to know exactly what is going on with Michael, but where are people's ethics, where is the respect? Apparently greed is all that some people are motivated by,

Just saw the new, longer article about this that's been posted. I am as certain as I can be that it's true - Michael's private medical records are being hawked across Europe for tens of thousands.

It also seems the info I posted earlier about Michael's communications on his journey to the new hospital, was also leaked and not official. I'm speechless.

I think media are waiting for the first words, the first time he steps back into a race car. That's the story they are waiting for. But the story is more likely to be that Michael is able to hold a spoon in a year's time, or say yes or no.

It is such a long, long journey, and for Michael it may be one with severe limitations at the end. Perhaps the family would be better off agreeing to issue 1 monthly, then 3 monthly updates, extending to 6 monthly updates as interest dies down. Even if it's just to say, 'no change in Michael's condition'. It would get the message across perhaps.

I don't know, this is all really sad. I can only wish Michael and his family all the best.

Michael Schumacher's wife Corinne attended an equine event in Germany and said that Michael is slowly getting better.

"It's getting better, slowly certainly, but in any case it's improving," she told Neue Post, a German women's weekly magazine."

Here is the google translated press release I think the Telegraph got that from. I'll try and get hold of the magazine, to see if there is anything more.

"Es geht bergauf. Langsam zwar, aber immerhin bergauf" - is what she said. The translation is good.

I'm glad to hear that.
