I am compelled to post a couple of excerpts from the article that Hejlena mentioned. Please let me know if it violates the rules. I just can't help myself, this is a horrible story and I wish it were getting more press - which would hopefully educate people and keep pressure on officials to do right by this child. Is there any possibility we could put her name (RieLee Lovell) in the title of this thread?

About the adult "guardian":

He [Taylor Cournoyer] told detectives he’d smoked marijuana with Laurie Cournoyer that night, then shot fireworks with the kids until 3 a.m.[...]Taylor Cournoyer explained that it had been difficult to keep track of all the children. They didn’t feed the kids because food had been short, he said, so there hadn’t been a daily tracking of their whereabouts in the days leading up to RieLee’s death.[...]“Taylor stated that it’s sometimes stressful at home because the kids ‘are real *advertiser censored**holes.’ ”

So many issues, but the lack of "daily tracking" is what finally did me in. "Daily tracking" - like this tender human being required (BUT DIDN'T RECEIVE) the same degree of care as a rental car. Bear in mind this was not a teenager - this was a TODDLER. This child died, this grown man found her little dead body, and in his police interview he actually chooses to tell them what an "*advertiser censored**hole" she and the other children were? The biological parents who left RieLee with meth addicts because they were "going through a rough patch" are certainly negligent as well. Wow. Ty so much for the info on the girls parents. I guess my assuming made an *advertiser censored* out of me for sure. Poor baby, she never had a chance did she? And wtf I can't even let my mind think about what he called the children. I'm afraid I'll grow huge and green. That's how much this whole situation pisses me off and disgusts me.

When I started this thread, we didn't know RieLee's name. I'll ask a mod if her name can be put in the title. I really appreciate your concern for RieLee, I am trying to get her case out there the best I can.

This case is upsetting on so many levels and the lack of reporting is frustrating. This community is what we call 'rugged', here in SD, I think you can see why. I drove a friend to pick up his daughter from Wagner a few years ago, he had no car he could trust to get him there. After a 4 hour drive, we found the daughter sitting on the front steps with a paper bag with all her things in it. She was covered with head and body lice, she also had an STD, discovered when we took her to the doctor. She was 3 years old. :sigh: She is with her daddy now, doing great and a very happy child. I wish RieLee had had better options.

THANK YOU, Imamaze....RieLee has her thread now! You made me cry when I saw it, I want this little girl's case to be more than a blip on the screen.

Do you think the mother new these two scum were tweakers? I couldn't imagine any responsible parent leaving thier kid with someone who abuses hard drugs.

I know I'm not Jacie, but it wasn't a drug here or there. With everything involved, how could she NOT know? Unless she had no idea as I don't think the parents are together.

RieLee may have been with her father and that is how she ended up at the tweakers. The mother was having a difficult pregnancy and dad told the media he was caring for her.
 
This is horrible. It sounds like RieLee's older sister was also at that house. I think there was a younger brother, I wonder if he was there too and for how long had they all been there?
How do so many people become so dysfunctional?
 
Says no one fed the kids for days because there was no food in the house, and yet they were at Wal Mart July 3rd buying cleaning supplies? What was needing so badly to be cleaned up?

Some cleaning supplies can be used to make meth.

I watched a documentary on meth. Unlike other drugs, it alters your brain chemistry so you don't feel love and affection to anyone anymore so there is no concern or remorse.

State's attorney: Wagner toddler might have been dead 12 hours before authorities found body

A preliminary autopsy was completed last week for Lovell, but Charles Mix County state's attorney Pam Hein said it could be as long as a month before an approximate time of death can be given.

A 12-year-old boy, a relative of the girl, was taken into custody Thursday in connection to the incident, and the remaining five children in the home were removed, officials said.

Taylor and Laurie Cournoyer are in custody for felony child abuse or neglect and also failing to report the death of a child. The two were supposed to be watching the child when she was found dead -- wrapped in a towel in the closet.

The baby's grandmother, Pamela Ashes, tells KSFY News the reason the Cournoyers were watching RieLee was because her mother Eileen was having complications with her current pregnancy and just needed some time.
