Sex Offender Awarded Custody of 3 Year Old

The warning was issued a day after the story aired.

IMO this grandmother is doing the best she can to get her grand baby that she has raised back from a RSO that is not even the child's Daddy.

If this had happened to me, I would be wanting to get media attention too. This man SHOULD not have this child.

Local Officials Want to Change Law Involved in Miranda Wilkerson Case

A group of local officials met at State Rep. Janet Adkins' office Tuesday morning to try and change the law that sent a child to live with a registered sex offender.

Joining Adkins was a social services expert, lawyer and DCF representative all with one thing on their minds, M.W.

Donald Coleman, the sex offender, is not M.'s biological dad. But by law, he is her legal father because he was married to M.'s mom at the time of her birth and her mom's death.

The group is focused on how the law should handle sex offenders in an adoption, grandparents' rights - basically non-existent in Florida - and how cases like M.'s should be handled in general.

Bio dad, you have to man up here and do something.

Biological dad fights for custody of Baker County Girl

M's biological father, James Larky Wilkerson, filed a petition against Coleman, claiming Coleman is unable to care for the child and outlining a history of violence.

Wilkerson told Action News his is confident that M will eventually return.

"She's my baby, and I want her back with me. She has no business living with him."

According to a DNA test taken in 2009, Wilkerson is the biological father with 99.95% certainty.

Miranda Wilkerson's Custody Battle Heats up in Baker County

Wilkerson filed a motion in August to get M out of a sex offender's home. Judge Phyllis Rosier, who ordered the child to Coleman's home, heard the arguments today, but held off on making a decision until both sides provide more information supporting their positions.

Rosier did assign an independent attorney to represent the child and what is in her best interest.

Both attorneys have 10 days to file their legal briefs with the court.

The last thing I'm seeing is when they were in court in Oct. 2011.

I can't find anything else.

I'd love to know what happened in this case and if M is still with Coleman or if her bio father was able to gain custody.
