Hey all. Friday night and I am wiped out. Trying to do a smoothie weekend. I am getting better at making them. Of course, Charming gave me great recipes and the Vitamix totally rocks.

Thanks to Yes/no posting those yummy looking pasta dishes, I am starving!!

I am so far behind, just been busy and getting sidetracked. And wondering what I've missed, besides all of you of course. :loveyou: Hope everyone's doing well, and hope everyone has a great weekend, and a a special Blessing to all our mother's for Mother's day ! Hopefully I'll have a chance to catch up some in the next day or so.

In the meantime, here is one of my favorite songs for all the Mama's here. Actually not just for the mama's, but for the children as well. The name of it is, guess what, "Mama" . :) And if it brings tears to your eyes, that's ok, it does me. :loveyou:

:tears::anguish::tears:

I'll just :therethere: myself and anyone else who listens to neesaki's video of "Mama".

Ok, I'm ok. :blushing:

I've been pondering about getting one of those, and you're definitely NOT getting long winded!
nah-crazy-rabbit-emoticon.gif

(yep, I'm exploring more emo/smily thingies, lol!)

Love the smileycons or what ever they are called.

Also love the bullet - have a veggie smoothy everyday since I got mine.

I purchased the 900series (middle sized one).
They have an Rx1400series that can do soup, but reviews were not in favor.
Too loud, motor too powerful for casing, and can not shut off once started (needs to run it's cycle 4mins regular, 7mins soup)
The 600series reviews state not enough power to liquify, too close to the the magic bullet.
That's why I ended up with the 900.

If I did it over, I'd purchase it off the infomercial - two for the price of one.
Bought mine from Kohl's with my sisters KohlsCash that she wasn't going to use. Only one in box.
Received some discount, but would be nice to have 2 - give one as a present, or keep for yourself.
I checked the info out online - do not remember their website, but google is our friend.

:tears::anguish::tears:

I'll just :therethere: myself and anyone else who listens to neesaki's video of "Mama".

Ok, I'm ok. :blushing:

I know, me too :tears: .... :therethere:

The thing is that the lyrics are just as beautiful as the music.

Mama

Mama thank you for who I am, thank you for all the things I'm not
Forgive me for the words unsaid for the times I forgot
Mama remember all my life you showed me love, you sacrificed
Think of those young and early days how I've changed along the way
(Along the way)

And I know you believed and I know you had dreams
And I'm sorry it took all this time to see
That I am where I am because of your truth
And I miss you, yeah I miss you

Mama forgive the times you cried, forgive me for not making right
All of the storms I may have caused and I've been wrong dry your eyes
Dry your eyes

'Cause I know you believed and I know you had dreams
And I'm sorry it took all this time to see
That I am where I am because of your truth
And I miss you, I miss you

Mama I hope this makes you smile, I hope you're happy with my life
At peace with every choice I made how I've changed along the way
'Cause I know you believed in all of my dreams
And I owe it all to you , mama

Most people do not realize that one of the biggest issues for wildlife is their loss of habitat due to humans building new developments.

It is so very sad and I have seen it with my own eyes how developments ruin habitat and places for wildlife to live.

Most people blame hunters for why wildlife decreases their population but I have read studies and agree with them that the most serious problem for wildlife is their loss of habitat. It destroys their places where they can live and then what happens is they naturally will not reproduce each year to have more babies.

We had a new development just put in a few miles away and it was so sad as I saw a group of 10 or so deer just standing in the middle of this little bit of woods that was left. All around them were trucks and buildings going up. They had nowhere to go and I am sure they eventually had to run through traffic to try to find somewhere else.

It was very upsetting to see because they had no where to go and nothing but streets and homes and businesses totally surrounding them. Grrrrrrrrrr.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm a big fan of NPR.

In the past few days I've listened to a couple very interesting interviews with folks who have done research and written books about the underlying issues regarding wild animals and how we, as "civilized" people, treat them:

1) Barry Estabrook, who wrote the book Pig Tales http://www.amazon.com/Pig-Tales-Omnivores-Quest-Sustainable/dp/039324024X, which chronicles how we cultivate the pork that we eat, and also how rampant feral pigs are (especially in Texas). The numbers are astounding, as is the damage they do to crops and landscaping. And, they're more prolific than bunnies.

2) Doug Tallamy, who wrote: The Living Landscape http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the...LA-_-Book_Under5-_-Q000000633-_-9781604694086. He acknowledges that: "here [in most of the east coast] there are more than 80 deer per square mile so I understand the issue well. We created the deer problem by eliminating predators and fragmenting the eastern deciduous forest to the point where it is just about all edge-habitat: perfect for deer."

(This book sounds like a good primer for gardeners who want to create sanctuaries that promote native plantings, as well as other forms of life; literally from the ground up.)

Whether we're talking about deer or feral pigs (or any other wildlife), the imbalance of man vs nature is highly disturbing. According to these authors, the birth rates of both these species do not decline relative to the diminishment of their habitats. They continue to procreate, even as their natural habitats are being decimated on a daily basis, which results in overpopulation. It's not something we can continue to ignore.

I don't live in a rural area. I don't even live in the suburbs. I live in Washington, DC, a major city, and it's not unusual for me to see deer (plural) walking down my street -- at all times of day.

I am so saddened by this. How did we get to a place where we value "development" more than the wildlife that freely existed here before we took over? I wish the dollar wasn't the deciding factor for everything, or better yet, I wish someone with deep pockets would choose to spend money on solutions that would benefit both us humans and our wildlife friends. There's got to be a better way. JMO

Hi Everyone....when someone needs help where to go...but the Sidebar....so this is my question...

What would be the type of doctor I would want to see if I have have a swollen lymph node behind my ear?

If I take an antibiotic it goes down, I use up the script, it comes back...it started 5 years ago with the head shingles, the ear pain got worse because I was on meds with sulfa in them which was causing a reaction. Now I am off almost all meds because of the fact they have sulfa in them...you would not believe how many meds have sulfa...and I am allergic to sulfas of all kinds to include foods. The ENT drs... said it is not their problem, the Eye doctor said she cannot do anything about the convergence until the doctors do something about the infection, primary care said no more antibiotics since there is only one I can take....so it is a game of pass the patient around the doctors and get no answers.

Since it is not related to the ear, even though I get stuffy and have a sinus headache, and it is not related to the eye, even though my right eye gets blurry when the lymph node gets larger....the only thing I can do is try and figure out what kind of a doctor deals with lymph nodes?

I use vinegar and alcohol, 50-50, twice a day in the ear and that helps a bit...yes I told the doctor....she just shrugged her shoulders. She can see and feel the swollen lymph node too.

So does anyone have any ideas what kind of a doctor or specialist I should look for? Or any ideas at all?

I did find out that some meds can be made at a compound pharmacy without certain ingredients....but the doctor has to be willing to call and find out the information! The companies do not like talking to the patients...and mine, well lets just say she rather I do all the work.

Love reading what everyone posts....I will have to remember the Kale and slugs! Wonder if grubs like them? We have HUGE grubs this year....

Happy Mother's Day to everyone....and thanks!

Oh dear. I feel for you and what you're going through. I can't believe that your primary care physician can't give you better guidance. You should definitely get an internist to evaluate you asap. :)

I have a question on a totally different topic.... Do you think there's any chance I could get Websleuths to help me find my long-lost nanny? As in, yes, a Mary Poppins kind of a nanny? An English one? She could be anywhere in the world. I've been looking for 50+ years....

Dang, that sounds nasty. This is not to be construed as medical advice, but I offer some thoughts:

1. Are you positive this is a lymph node? I didn't even know there were lymph nodes behind the ear (shows how little I know, lol): I guess I'll have to poke around in mine and see what I can find.

2. I wouldn't treat it at all with anything until I had more information.

3. If you look up other possibilities than lymph nodes, I recommend keeping to informational sites like Mayo Clinic (excellent info) and not doing a Dr. Google number and getting on forums dedicated to a specific disorder, otherwise you will almost certainly have it in no time at all. In other words, those forums are a great way to induce misplaced panic. I speak about this from experience, since I have several weirdnesses. I could never have guessed at these weirdnesses, by the way, if I had researched them myself.

4. Have the docs taken obvious diagnostic tests like a CBC? This is generally a good starting place to evaluate whether something major is going on.

5. Maybe try Mayo clinic's site for these: mastoid, acoustic neuroma, post herpetic something or other (means "nerve stuff that happens after shingles.."), lipoma, sebaceous cyst. Then you could look up "differential diagnoses" for these things, since differential diagnoses are the items that have similarities. NOTE: I am not a physician.

6. Do you have an allergist? If you do, try giving him/her a call. Allergists are trained in immunology. Lymph nodes are part of the immune system. Allergists also did their residencies in internal medicine or pediatrics, so they have broad brush knowledge to fall back on. If the allergist/immunologist thinks s/he is not the person to go to, ask who is. Ask for a referral. If s/he won't give you a referral, have him/her call your PCP and request that you be given one.

7. Hematologists know about lymph nodes: but first verify the problem is a lymph node.

One day, I'll tell you the story of the opthalmology technician who impaled her privates on my kneecap and did the eye exam that way.

NOTE: I am not a physician.

I have a question on a totally different topic.... Do you think there's any chance I could get Websleuths to help me find my long-lost nanny? As in, yes, a Mary Poppins kind of a nanny? An English one? She could be anywhere in the world. I've been looking for 50+ years....

I don't know how Websleuths works with that kind of thing, but I'm sure you'd have a lot of people on your side if you want to provide pertinent information...

I'd see an Ear Nose and Throat doctor. I have an ear infection for a few weeks. I had a prescription for Cipro drops and it's getting better.

My ears itch when I wear ear-buds or the old fashion 70's headphones and I don't know if that starts it. I wake up at night scratching my ears and have made them bleed. DO NOT put the ear wax removal drops in your ear after that. It burns like fire. It's just peroxide.

Not to frighten you, but my father had non Hodgkin Lymphoma and the lymph node behind his right ear was the first place it showed up first.

Grubs are the larvae of june bugs which I absolutely hate.

I don't know how Websleuths works with that kind of thing, but I'm sure you'd have a lot of people on your side if you want to provide relevant information...

Key details: she was with us in Ghana from 1961-63. She joined us at the port of Southampton on the SS America while we sailed from New York to Bremerhaven. We stayed in Bonn for a few months and then left for Africa. Her name (née) was Patsy Ashcroft. She was from northern England, near Carlisle, in those days in the county of Cumberland. Her accent sounded as though she came from Lancashire, so it's hard to know if she had always been from Carlisle. She called a book a boo-k and a cook a coo-k: we thought this was hilarious. I interviewed Patsy with my mother at the Lyons Cornerhouse at Piccadilly Circus in London. Patsy was not thin, by any means, but not plump, either. Brown curly hair. She had an older sister who trained as a nurse at St. Thomas' Hospital in London. Patsy would probably be in her early 70's.

She saved my life.

So, I have some great identifying details, but can I find even a clue? Nyet! Ideas? I've tried to communicate with all the Patsy/Patricia Ashcrofts on Facebook, but if she married, her name might be different.

See how I need some sleuths?

That's some good, detailed info, but as you've indicated, the problem with finding women is that they're subject to name changes if they married. Still, let's give it a shot -- I'm game! Anyone else?

Rickshaw, why not ask a mod if we can start a thread for this search for your nanny. I am not good at knowing how to look for "lost", but I am pretty sure there are peeps here who can be very helpful. Good luck!

MsJosie, I cannot believe your general practitioner is not sending you to a specialist, I don't know what type to see. Swollen nodes should get more attention . There has to be a reason for this happening.

Ugh! I detest June bugs and grubs. I didn't know that was where those bugs came from.

Rain and thunder boomers are here! Woke up sound of running water...our hot faucet is leaking in the tub. Nothing open this time of night/morning. Think it is the O ring. Trip to Mernard's as soon as it opens at 8am. The joys of homeowners; it's always something!

The dead baby bird is gone and the 2 little eggs are still there and have not seen any birds around the nest the last few days.

Robin eggs are doing good. Momma sits on the nest most of the time.

Mistrial Declared in Etan Patz Murder Case After Jury Deadlocks for a Third Time
Eleven of the 12 jurors believed Hernandez was guilty; one held out against a conviction

"A judge declared a mistrial in the Etan Patz murder case after the 12-person jury, deliberating for an 18th day, sent him a note for the third time saying they could not agree on whether 54-year-old Pedro Hernandez killed the 6-year-old child in 1979....

The lone holdout, Adam Sirois, told reporters he couldn't overcome reasonable doubt; he said he felt mental issues were at play, citing Hernandez's "bizarre" confession, and said he had concerns about the police tactics through which that confession was attained...

Date set for Shayna Hubers' sentencing

"NEWPORT – Convicted murderer Shayna Hubers is scheduled to be sentenced June 2, but two weeks after her trial, attorneys are still battling out issues related to the case.
Hubers' attorneys have filed a motion for a new trial, arguing they were unable to present evidence that might have bolstered her claims of self-defense during the April 13-24 proceeding.

They have also filed a motion asking the court to declare Hubers a victim of domestic violence, which could make her eligible for parole in eight years instead of 20 years..."
