"Survivor" groups by race for Cook Islands

The cream of the crop from each race? lol--did you see their picture? there is a really fat white guy and a really fat black girl--why do the producers allow out of shape people on this show?/ this is basically a physical contest--they're not playing checkers here, these are obstacle courses---and this race thing is even more divisive, another bad idea---Survivor was a great show til they started tinkering with the formula--decline in the ratings started with "All-Star' survivor show when pretty Amber and Ugly Boston Rob --since then, the ratings have gone down every year--Well,at least the Cook Islands are a great locale

I've never seen the show, but didn't a really fat white guy win the game once? Don't count out the fatties. :silenced:

Yep, that's the Richard Hatch I referred to above. He's in jail now for tax evasion, but still fat.

To be honest with you if the contestants who signed up to be in this show don't have ill feelings over being segregated like this than why should we? You guys all know that after a while the groups get combined and there will be a melting pot of races once again. In a way I think it might be a little comforting for each race at the beginning because they won't feel like they're being voted out of their tribe because of color or race. I think this will be really interesting. I mean there have been many shows that separate men from women. I think we all make way too big of a deal of colors and race. We're all God's children and we all need the same things to survive.

Love your comeback to Rush ember!

And this will make it less of a big deal? Sorry, Anng, I don't get the logic.

I also don't think anybody is hysterical over this. I don't like the idea, but I'm not calling for a boycott. I'm sure I'll watch this season - just like all the others.

The Cook Islands are absolutley stunning, just saw a promo for the show--probably the most beautiful locale yet---new season starts Sept. 14th

I did not mean this was going to make it better just the whole race thing to begin with. But I will say again, if it doesn't bother those who signed up to participate than it should be okay with us.

Except we have no way of knowing whether it bothered them or not. Survivor springs these things as a surprise at the beginning of each season. I doubt the contestants knew about it until it was a fact.

That being said, it ain't slavery. It's a shot a $1 million-dollar prize.

I will certainly agree that this is not one of the world's great problems. :)

agree, its a minor event, especially with Survivors declining ratings(last year's finale was rated only 13th among top shows that week---anyway,separating the races make no sense--should be four groups, with each group having one white, black, hispanic, asian

I think it's an interesting, albeit, controversial, idea to separate
based on race, but needless to say, I will be watching.
(I'd watch anyway, though.)

As for PeterHamilton and anyone else who says that "fat" people
shouldn't be allowed on the show: that is very narrow minded thinking,
since some "fat" people are more athletic than some thin people.
I can think of more than a few of the skinny girls on that show who
were PATHETIC in the physical challenges.

Yes, the game is very physical, but it's also about *outwitting* your opponents.

I admit to being a fan of the show, and have watched every season! LoL! The All Star one, was the best! How could you not love Amber, and Rob?! I was so happy when they got married, and that it was televised!
The romance was beautiful, it was the modern day fairy tale, and they made a great team!!!!

And as far as "fat people," and "race," being an issue, IMO, THAT is pathetic! It is a "GAME," and should be played as such! Plus it is supposed to be for entertainment, and should remain with the original theme....

Having worked in Marketing, I know all about the media, and how sleaze and controversy equals big money!

IMO, the seasons that have been crummy are due to the casting!!!! Just like ALL the other "REALITY," shows!
We will watch if WE are interested, but unfortunately controversy is profitable, as has always been.....

From OJ, to JonBenet,, we find ourselves being voyeurs with our own opinions, and remain glued to see if others feel the same......

Psychology, yuck!!!!

Just give me a show to take my mind off the BS of the real reality, and take me to an island where gorgeous men and women battle it out to see who is the ultimate winner in a contest of ultimately, lasting the longest!

And as history has shown us, it all comes down to a battle of wits, just as real life truly is......

I have the BEST idea for a Survivor cast and show! Just pick a dozen random people, give them a child, and a welfare check, and let's see how long they last!!!!!

Now, THAT is a REALITY!!!!!

I thought this was interesting, I didn't know all of this:

Every player receives a stipend for participating on Survivor depending on how long they last in the game. The known prizes for All-Stars are as follows: 2nd = $250,000; 3rd = $125,000; 4th = $100,000. In most seasons, the runner-up receives $100,000, and third place wins $85,000. Sonja Christopher, the first player voted off in Survivor's first season, received $2,500. [1] Tina Wesson, the first player voted off in Survivor: All-stars, received $25,000. The prizes in seasons with more than sixteen contestants are unknown.
The million-dollar winner also wins an automobile, as does the winner of a specific reward challenge in each season (excluding the first). All players also receive an additional $10,000 for their appearance on the reunion show.

And speaking of the heavier set ones:

He won one million dollars on Survivor: America's Tribal Council which was a special episode of Survivor: All-Stars.

I absolutely love Survivor, but I wouldn't last 5 seconds out there!
