Officers went to the Powells' home. When no one came to the door, they broke a window and went inside, fearing a case of carbon monoxide poisoning.

"When they broke the window and got in the house, they found my daughter's purse and cell phone on the bed, a wet spot on the floor dried by two fans," said Cox. "And the family was gone."

Father of missing woman arrives in Utah

Charles Cox had been following the investigation into his daughter’s disappearance as best he could from his home in Puyallup, Washington. Now he’s in Utah. Cox and a friend arrived Friday evening at Salt Lake International Airport.

The friend, Michael Gifford, is also a former police officer who might be a valuable liaison with West Valley Police investigators. “It couldn’t hurt,” said Cox. “He used to do investigations.” Still, Cox made it clear that he has no intention of getting in the way. “We want to leave everything to the police. They’ve done a great job so I don’t want to interfere with what they’re doing.”

West Valley woman missing

............................snip..................

Monday afternoon at three, she spoke with Josh by phone.

She said he was driving around with the kids.

Hellewell told him about Susan and that he needed to come home.

According to Hellewell it took him two hours to get home.

"There's no words to describe what’s happening,” she said. “You hear about this stuff happening and it’s awful but at least it’s not us until it’s your best friend.”

Hellewell said the Powell family moved into the neighborhood five years ago.

Police said there have never been any calls of domestic violence.

But Hellewell said Susan Powell confided in her last year that she was thinking about a divorce.

“But she said things have been working out lately,” Hellewell said.

'Let's not stop looking for my daughter'

WVC » Missing mom's father pleads for people to stop focusing so much on her husband.

West Valley City » The father of Susan Powell, the West Valley City mother who was reported missing Monday, says people should stop focusing solely on her husband, Joshua.

"I don't see him as capable of harming her," said Charles Cox, who flew in from his home in Puyallup, Wash., to assist in finding his 28-year-old daughter. "I'm kind of concerned that all the focus is on him."

Cox spoke Saturday at the LDS Church's Hunter Central Stake Center. He wiped away tears as about 100 friends, family and neighbors of Powell gathered to pray, sing hymns and start a 24-hour fast in hopes of her safe return. A tearful Joshua Powell and the couple's two boys also attended, but Powell did not speak to reporters.

West Valley City family wants focus on missing mother

Too much of that talk has been directed at Josh Powell, a family member says.

"There's a lot of speculation," Kirk Graves, Josh Powell's brother-in-law, told reporters during a brief press conference Saturday. "Unfortunately, that doesn't do Susan any good. It's destructive and damaging to what's going on."

Family of missing woman's husband speaks; friends hand out posters

Powell's husband, Josh, and their 2- and 4-year-old sons were at the service. Afterwards, Josh Powell didn't want to say a word or answer a question about his missing wife, but his brother-in-law did.

"We continue to hope she will be returned to us safely," said Kirk Graves.

With Josh standing next to him, Graves thanked the West Valley City Police Department, family, friends and complete strangers for helping them. He also said all the speculation about Josh somehow being involved in his wife's disappearance is upsetting.

"I think it's pointless. I think maybe worse than pointless. I think it's destructive and damaging to what's going on," said Graves. "There has been so much speculation that we just need to put it to rest."

Friend talks about Sunday dinner with Powell family Meanwhile, a woman who had dinner with Josh and Susan last Sunday, Dec. 6, spoke to KSL News about what happened that afternoon.

JoVonna Owings, said Susan invited her to have dinner at her home because she wanted some help with a crocheting project. She said Susan's yarn for that project was tangled and she wanted help with it.

According to Owings, the mood in the home was calm and relaxed. She and Susan sat in the living room, ate dinner and talked while Josh ate in the kitchen with the couple's two boys. She said Josh often came out to the living room to talk to both of them.

Around 5 p.m., the last thing Susan said to Owings before Owings went home was: "She said, did I mind if she went and lied down? I said I didn't have a problem with it. I'd keep working on the yarn."

Owings said Josh told her he was going to take the boys sledding. She didn't think it was unusual because Josh is a responsible father and would not have kept the boys out very long. She said Josh never mentioned taking the boys camping later that night.
