EXCLUSIVE: Prosecutor in Randy Taylor case speaks to WSLS
Posted: May 20, 2014 3:08 PM EST

For six days in a Nelson County courtroom, one man gave a voice to a teenager he says was silenced.
That man is Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney Anthony Martin.

Although, Alexis Murphy's family doesn't have a body to bury, Martin wanted to make sure that didn't stop the jury from finding Randy Taylor guilty of her abduction and murder.
"It would be a terrible thing to require proof of the body because all a person would have to do is cleverly dispose of it and be able to walk away with committing murder," Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney Anthony Martin says.

Randy Taylor to serve two life sentences for the murder of Alexis Murphy

A Nelson County jury convicted Taylor of first-degree murder and abduction in May. The jury recommended two life sentences. He received that sentence Wednesday afternoon, even though Murphy's body was never found.

Taylor asked for a 20-year sentence in exchange for telling authorities where Murphy's body was. Murphy's family did not want that deal. While the family wants closure and wants the chance to lay their daughter to rest, they felt it would be a bad idea to give Taylor a 20-year sentence in exchange for Murphy's body because they feel he is dangerous to society.

Search for missing Orange County woman returns to Greene County lake
September 12, 2014

Roughly 70 divers from agencies across the state came together at a lake in Greene County on Thursday to continue the search for Samantha Ann Clarke.
The lake that is the centerpiece of the Greene Acres subdivision northwest of Stanardsville has been part of the investigation since Clarke went missing almost exactly four years ago. James Fenwick, chief of town of Orange police, said authorities had scoured about 90 percent of the lake in previous searches. After receiving a request from Orange County Commonwealth’s Attorney Diana Wheeler, crews went out to clear the remaining 10 percent.

A vigil to mark the anniversary of Clarke’s disappearance is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in Taylor Park in the town of Orange.

Deadly shooting in Charlottesville involves cousin of local missing woman

[...]

Xavier Murphy is the cousin of Alexis Murphy, who was murdered back in 2013. His mother, Trina Murphy, is an advocate for Help Save the Next Girl. Trina released the following statement on Facebook:

"An all too familiar story in my timeline. A beautiful woman’s life cut short by a violent relationship. The only twist today is it’s my child on the other side of the gun. My son is the perpetrator. The very thing I advocate against has been committed by someone I once carried inside me.
