Jury seated for Vanessa Coleman trial

A jury of 12 Nashville-area residents has been seated for Vanessa Coleman's murder trial.

The jury consists of 9 women and 3 men. The racial makeup appears to be 6 white women, 3 black women, two white men, and one black man.

The court then selected four alternates, consisting of a black man, a white woman, a black woman, and a white man.

The prosecution has focused on the definition of criminal responsibility, telling potential jurors there will not be a lot of physical evidence that Coleman committed most crimes, but that she still could be criminally responsible.

The defense has focused on the prosecution's burden to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The defense is reinforcing that Coleman has no duty to prove her innocence, as she is presumed innocent until prosecutors prove guilt.
