Burial for Newport teen, loved ones say goodbye

NEWPORT (WATE) - Family and friends were finally able to say goodbye to Newport teen Megan Maxwell. She was buried on Sunday in Dandridge.
.......................
As they followed her casket to the spot where they would say goodbye they finally had with them the knowledge that she would never come home and her dreams would never be realized.

"The most caring, loving, smiley, friendliest person that you ever met," said Maxwell's aunt, Glenda Bewley.

Four white doves marked Megan's departure and Psalm 55:6 was read.

The man charged in the death and rape of Megan Maxwell was arraigned this morning by Judge Ben Hooper in Cocke County Circuit Court.

Jeffery Lee Stock, 43, is charged with felony murder, rape, theft of property over $1,000 and arson.

While in court, Stock – who proclaimed his innocence, took time to harass the family of the 19-year-old victim in the case.

Jeffery Lee Stock sentenced for sex offender registration crime

The man behind bars for the murder of Megan Maxwell will now serve a concurrent federal sentence for sex offender registration crime. A federal judge also sentenced him to serve lifetime supervised release by the federal court system.

In January, Jeffery Lee Stock, 44, of Newport took a "best interest" plea deal for the murder of 19 year-old Megan Maxwell in 2009.

He was sentenced to 18 years for the second degree murder charge, but received nearly four years off for time served.

Wednesday, Stock was sentenced to serve 46 months in federal prison for traveling out of state and failure to register as a convicted sex offender.

Stock will spend a little more than 14 years behind bars.

After his release, Stock will have to serve a lifetime of federal supervised release. This reverses the Cocke Co. judgement in which Stock was to face no time of supervised release.

Stock did not admit guilt in Megan's murder.
