'We were robbed': Family's plea for answers as $1m reward offered for 1996 cold case

'The night she died, we were robbed': $1 million reward for information about 1996 cold case murder of Toni Tiki

The children of a murdered Sydney mother have pleaded for answers from the public as a $1 million reward is announced to help solve the nearly 30-year-old cold case.

Toni Tiki, 26, was last seen leaving a New Year's Eve party at the South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club at 1.30am January 1, 1996.

A male friend of Tiki had earlier agreed to walk her home, but he later decided to stay at the party and she left alone.

'Police believe a Maroubra local may be responsible for the death of a young mother whose body was dumped in scrubland after she was violently murdered.'

''Her partially clad body was found the next day in scrubland near a walking track. She had died of significant head injuries.''

''Doherty said where Tiki’s body was found was not a major thoroughfare, and was most likely used only by locals or those with local knowledge.

Given her condition when she was found, police believe it was a sexually motivated attack and are examining previous sexual offences in the Maroubra area that might have been connected.''

'A three day search came to a tragic end on January 5 when police found Ms Tiki's body dumped in scrubland near the surf live saving club where she'd spent her final hours alive.'

''NSW Police Homicide Squad Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said the 28-year-old cold case will be reinvestigated entirely, with forensic testing to be included as part of the renewed investigation.''
