I am very interested in the defense that JP will present. "Talking Heads" on Courttv stated that CD should get on the stand, say he was "brainwashed" and that it was all LVD's idea about "zombies" and ratings. But of course, they didn't get into how CD would explain Tammy's death.

problematic would be the email CD sent LV explaining all the ratings when she asked HIM for family ratings. this was Oct 2018 when they first met. no question the ratings originated with CD.

cant remember if this email was admitted by the state.

also....what was testified to by Officer Kaaiakamanu was retrieving a daybell family chat which revealed tammy and the kids were aware of CD light/dark ratings ratings. but again, no talk of zombies.

its a bit muddy to me who first assigned the term zombie....but the end result was this group jumped right in, hopped right on and claimed they knew nothing of CD and LV's death squad.

more disturbing was her saying Brandon should continue to live in fear of AC, he shouldnt know AC is dead. and laughter abounds. kind of her trying to infer she was all on board with them because she knew she was being recorded.

On Monday night’s Courtroom Insider, Nate read a statement that Ian P. wrote prior to lawyering up (I don’t remember the date of this published statement). He seemed to go back and forth with accepting the reality of the situation and continuing to live in denial. It seems he ultimately chose to live in denial and shield “innocent” Melaniece. My initial thought was that this was “cope” at work. For whatever reason he chose to marry this woman he didn’t really know ASAP and bring his children around her, only to find out she’s deeply involved in some Mormon fanfiction fringe group that involves death and missing children. I’m not shocked he’s “playing ostrich” and standing by his woman…it’s much easier than recognizing you made an insane mistake and getting out of dodge. Sunk cost fallacy at work.

People like to joke about Mormons marrying young and quickly but I’m not sure what the deal is with Ian shacking up so quickly with Melaniece. It’s not like he was an older, never-married LDS man desperate to fulfill the cultural marriage requirement.

Zulema and Alex married quickly but they both became entrenched in Chad’s cult (what is the official name of this BTW?) independently before tying the knot suddenly. Ian P. was apparently a rando that met Melaniece on a dating app.

Exactly. This group are Macbethian witches with all of their powers and none of their literacy.

And this was death by remote control. They were perfectly happy for "demons" to be voided and for the body / vessel to die. But from a nice, safe townhouse or closet far away. None of this death-casting crew wanted to get their hands dirty -- that was for "warrior' Alex C.

And soft-as-a-mouse Zulema was fine to conjure and earthquake (!) that might, incidentally, kill Charles V, while presumably also killing many other innocents. And Lori (and others) could cast CV into a car crash with no thought of the human pain and anguish this was all too likely to produce.

The whole thing is astonishingly creepy and cruel. None of them seemed inclined at all to use their supposed power for good, and they were remarkably cavalier about collateral damage.

It's interesting how the larger group around CD and LVD have taken on a different aspect as "witnesses" to the central evil. But they were just as focused on murder, and just as willing to commit it -- from a comfortable distance.

If I were a prosecutor on this case I would have a hard time not screaming.

Prosecution: Chad and Lori did it.

Defense: Chad Daybell was just quiet, humble LDS Everyman, writing his fiction and talking to people about totally normal LDS doctrines until the day he met--and was deceived by the womanly wiles of--Lori Vallow, who threw herself at him and then completely twisted his totally normal LDS teachings. Of course, he had to keep making up stories about how special she and all of her friends were and how evil the people she didn't like were, and giving her friends oddly specific blessings in order to keep her attention, but he was an author! I do remember this vibe from when they were first rumbled in Hawaii

On the one hand i felt it was obvious the kids were dead. But on the other hand it seemed scarcely believable that they murdered them and then just refused to say where they were?

Yes, I often think back on those days. I remember reading an article about the missing kids before Chad and Lori were known (by the press at least) to be in Hawaii. When they were discovered, it was just so surreal that they wouldn't give any information. I'm still baffled why they didn't immediately lawyer up. I mean, what did they think would happen? Lori's arrest was inevitable, and I suppose she may have been so delusional as to think a portal would appear or something, but why didn't Chad seek counsel?

We know Mark Means became involved in March 2020 and he claimed to be representing both of them (which got him eventually kicked off of the case). But Chad was aware he was a person of interest at least by December 2019 when Tammy's body was exhumed, and the police announced their suspicions of foul play involving the disappearance of the kids as well as Tammy's death. What on earth did Chad think was going to happen?

Even by LDS standards, meeting someone and getting married within two weeks is bizarre. I think that there is more to the story of IP and MP. But, it seems like IP became aware of what happened to JJ and Tylee, and moved to distance himself and protect MP.

Body language observations


These have been CD's "default" poses this morning as photos of JJ's body are shown. He keeps switching from one to another, shifting around more than usual. I caught at least one little "what-a-shame"-type head-shaking. His lips have been pretty much a straight line, his brows sort of furrowed, hands clasped in front of him (tension signs).

"Duct tape" in particular seemed to be a term that made him more tense and fidgety.

Oh, I'm definitely interested in what Prior's "spin" on that one will be. Will he ignore it completely, hoping the jury overlooks it? Will he argue that there really is a raccoon buried there somewhere, and the timing was just one more wacky coincidence? Will he go for the "confuse the jury" method by arguing about where on the Daybell's expansive property the "pet cemetery" is located? Time will tell!

After LVD’s trial, I also thought ZP was just that naive and desperate to be accepted by these people and elevated in her own “power”. Since LVD’s trial, I heard her on someone’s podcast from years before she ever met CD & LVD and learned more about her from others posts and podcasts. She may not have been quite as bizarre as this has all been but was apparently already involved in energy work and conversion therapy and had some odd views. And over the course of this whole story we’ve learned that she had connections to AVOW and JM before ever meeting MG or LVD or CD. Some of her previous jobs are what I would call “eye brow raising” - cuddle therapy, life coach, emotion coach to name a few. Supposedly, she was married 5 times before AC and one of her step-daughters claims she convinced her teenage brother to try to hang himself. One of her previous jobs was as an aide with CPS and she should have known Tylee & JJ were in danger perhaps more than any other member of the 7 Gatherers because of her previous work with Child & Family service agencies.

After hearing her testimony in this trial and going back and listening to previous LE interviews & testimony in LVD’s trial, I am convinced that she was involved more than any other member of the castings group and into it deeper than anyone else and stayed with it longer than anyone else.

I no longer think that she was naive - but that she thought CD & LVD could elevate her further in her circle of influence - whether teaching or energy work or now her newfound power over the elements like the weather and earthquakes or whatever. I think she was involved for her own reasons and not so much manipulated and led astray as perhaps some of the other members of the 7 Gatherers may have been. She jumped in with both feet and went full steam ahead and stuck with CD/LVD longer than anyone else and I think she knew more of what was going on at the time than she has admitted.
