He also stated that "it is clear that [Masharipov] staged the attack on behalf of DAESH,"using the Arabic acronym for the jihadist group.

Masharipov had confessed the attack and his fingerprints matched those found at the scene, the governor said.

A total of $197.000 in cash, two guns and two drones were also seized during the operation, Şahin added.

Along with Masharipov, "one Iraqi-origin man and three women of Egyptian and African origin" were also detained, he said.

Vasip Sahin told a new conference on Tuesday it was "clear that this was carried out in the name of Daesh," using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, also known as ISIS.

Anadolu said police carried out raids on members of a suspected Uzbek ISIL cell in five Istanbul neighbourhoods and detained several people.

The first contact with the ISIL militant occurred in Istanbul’s Bakırköy a day after the Reina attack. Traffic police recognized Masharipov, who was sitting in the back seat, but the car managed to escape after opening fire on police. After the incident, police determined that Masharipov was taken to Esenyurt from Bahçeşehir.
Masharipov panicked after three Uzbek citizens with whom he was in contact were caught in the southern province of Hatay. Raids on five addresses in Esenyurt were then carried out.

“Don’t kill me,” Masharipov told the police in Turkish during the raid, as he was trying to hide under a bed. According to the police, he sent his 4-year-old son to another ISIL cell.

[h=2]ISIS gifted nightclub killer with three women[/h]
Jan 19, 2017 , Last Updated: 7:45 PM ET
Three women nabbed by cops in the hideout of ISIS killer Abdulkadir Masharipov were sent by the death cult as a reward for the terrorist’s Istanbul nightclub slaughter.

ISIS is notorious for its raping and the sexual trading and torture of women.
The three -- an Egyptian, a Somalian and a Senegalese -- were cowering in fear when cops stormed the hideout, about 40 kilometres from the scene of the massacre, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported.

Maybe they should be "gifted" with cleaning persons? imo.
Also arrested in the squalid hideout on Monday were three women from Somalia, Senegal and Egypt.

And according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, they had been sent to Masharipov by the terror group as a prize for his slaughter in the nightclub.

In some sections of Islam it is understood that those who die in the name of God are gifted 72 virgins upon reaching heaven.

While Mashaipov was clearly the recipient of a reward without having to give his life in the name of his religion, it is not clear if the women sent to him were virgins.
This comes as four other accomplices were also arrested in the run down flat, which was just 25 miles from the scene of the deadly assault.

REINA GUNMAN RECEIVED ORDER FROM ISIL HEAD IN SYRIA OVER TELEGRAM

“I have no regrets. I would do it again,”

Turkish Minute

Abdulkadir Masharipov, the prime suspect in a Jan. 1 massacre at the Reina nightclub in İstanbul who is under interrogation has said he received order for attack over Telegram from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) leader in Syria.

Masharipov said that the head of ISIL in Syria called him to ask for a potential suicide bomber and then offered him to carry out the attack. Later, a man code-named ‘Abu Jihad’ sent him the instructions.

Hürriyet daily reported on Saturday that terrorist who killed a total of 39 people and wounded another 69 in Reina received arms from a Caucasian Russian speaking ISIL member two days before the attack in İstanbul. This person reportedly told Masharipov that he could detonate himself as well.

From the article:
https://www.thenational.ae/world/europe/trial-opens-of-istanbul-new-year-massacre-gunman-1.683468

A total of 57 suspects are due to go on trial, including Masharipov's wife Zarina Nurullayeva, who is a suspected accomplice and risks similar penalties to her husband. All but six are being held in custody.

Masharipov was captured alive in a massive police operation and analysts say his evidence in confessions have helped Turkish authorities break up the elaborate network of extremist cells in the city.

He is facing charges ranging from "attempting to destroy constitutional order", "membership of an armed terrorist organisation", to "murdering more than one person".

These wolves are never lonely.....

I wonder if this thread could be moved back to Rampage Killings and Terorist Attacks? The overview that we have of terrorist attacks, especially in Europe and Turkey (Asia) will get completely lost if everything disappears into 'trials'.
IMHO No one is going to binge-watch this trial, what is most interesting is to uncover the networks that are behind Islamic terrorism and the various attacks.
