Texas summer heat, body in an attic for most likely 11 or so days, I don't even want to think what that recovery must have been like.

EG must have known whom ever the POI is, since the location where her body was found was the last place she was reported to have been last seen according the article posted up thread.

The body that was discovered Thursday was confirmed to be that of 40-year-old Editza Gomez, who police said was missing for nearly two weeks, police said.
  • Two men identified as persons of interest are in custody.
  • Gomez's body was found wrapped in plastic.
  • The residence belonged to one of the persons of interest.
  • Both men who are being questioned by police are acquaintances of Gomez.

Gomez was last seen on Aug. 19 at the 1000 block of North Miller Avenue. On Thursday, authorities found her body in the attic of a home on that street.

Officials say, that was the location where she was reported to be last seen.

“They found a hidden compartment in the towards the back of the attic, the compartment was like a wall-type hidden compartment against the attic,” said Arturo Flores Mission Police Public Information Officer. ” Editza was found, she was wrapped up in seven different layers of plastic, towels, bedsheets and plastic bags.”

Valenzuela — a friend of Mercado who was at the home at the time of Gomez's death — turned himself in to the Mission Police Department that same day and provided a statement of his involvement in the alleged crime, Flores said

Before police confirmed the body was that of Gomez, Melendez said she had a gut feeling her mom wasn't alive anymore.

“I already knew in my heart it was her," Melendez said.

Melendez says she is devastated she couldn't see her mom one last time.

“I wish I could have said goodbye,” Melendez said. “I wish we would have found her in a different condition, in a different way, but we got closure"

Gomez was last seen two weeks ago at the same location the body was found. According to her daughter Caylee Melendez, on the day of her disappearance Gomez called her father asking for a ride.

When he arrived, he was told by Editza’s boyfriend she left walking. But her family believed otherwise.

“She doesn’t really walk. Usually if she needs some things usually cause me or my sister or our husbands. You know, because we have a car we’ll go pick her up either way,” said Caylee told us.

Reynaldo Mercado is facing charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse. At an arraignment Wednesday in the 92nd district court, Mercado entered a plea of not guilty.

[...]

“An aerial surveillance of the residence was conducted which shows a lot of ground disturbance and digging,” the affidavit stated.

Additionally, the affidavit stated that police received tips that Mercado had access to chained-up doors and compartments on the property.

On Aug. 31, authorities executed a search warrant on the property. Cadaver canines with the U.S. Border Patrol located a nonresponsive body in a concealed compartment between the attic wall of the living room and the wall of the kitchen, the affidavit stated.
