I find it quite telling that the prosecution asked for a 57 yr sentence and the jury came back with life.

He deserved what he received.

The shame of being a priest- someone people trust- and the shame that the Church covered the murder up- terrible betrayal by both- is just disgraceful.

Shame. Shame.

I find him offensive- he is a monster.

He's old now and probably won't last another 10 years.

Should have been convicted in the 60s and been in prison for all these years, IMO, instead of living a life that Irene couldn't.

EDINBURG — In what can be seen as a procedural move, John Feit's defense attorney filed a notice of appeal earlier this week (Tuesday, Jan 2), according to court records.

Hopefully this will be denied.

It's worth noting that this is the oldest cold case solved with a conviction. I believe so since the conviction in Maria Ridulph's case was overturned.

Thirty-eight years after a young mother was killed in Fresno County, investigators are again asking for information to find her killer.

Irene Garza was found dead in the backyard of her Kerman home on July 13, 1982. It became a cold case that same year.

Garza was 24 years old. She had three young sons – ages 6, 4, and 3 months old – when she was killed. An autopsy revealed she was murdered. She was also described as a domestic violence victim.

Garza’s husband, Abel Garza Sr., who is still alive, was identified as a person of interest in her death, but no one was ever arrested in the case, said Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims during a news conference Monday afternoon.
