Onyeri has a criminal record dating to 2006, with offenses that include fraudulently using another person's identity or bank cards. He has also been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, marijuana possession and evading detention. He was arrested in 2008 in Harris County on a murder charge, but the Austin American-Statesman reports that case was dismissed.

But his dad claims CHO was home with him (Daddy) during the May murder for which he's been charged, and the attack on Judge Kocurek. He's such a good boy, I'm sure. :innocent:

Tuesday afternoon, Houston police charged Chimene Onyeri with the murder of a man that happened just blocks from his southwest Houston home last May. Even though the murder at Falls of Bellaire, an apartment complex, is unrelated to the Austin case, sources tell Eyewitness News that ballistics from both scenes matched. That link could be crucial as the investigation continues.

Despite a lengthy criminal record, Chimene Onyeri rarely faced convictions. A murder charge Onyeri faced in 2008 was dismissed three years later without explanation, Harris County court records show.

He was found not guilty of an 2008 armed robbery, and his charges of evading arrest in 2008, trespassing in 2007 and unlawful firearm possession in 2006 were each dismissed. He did, however, serve six days after pleading guilty to possessing marijuana.

It is believed that Judge Kocurek would be revoking CHO's parole for a fraud charge at an upcoming (December) hearing. I know he hasn't officially been charged with her shooting yet, but was CHO upset that a judge was finally holding him responsible for his crimes? I would not be surprised if someone in the justice system had been pulling strings for CHO until now, because he's gotten away with so much, including murder. JMO

In 2008, Onyeri was charged in the murder of Kenneth Brooks Jr.

"I remember this place. It's the first time back here since the day it happened," said Brooks' mother Jessie Thomas. "Just bringing back memories of that day."

The Texas judge who was shot in front of the driveway of her Austin home earlier this month, in an attack described by police as an assassination attempt, plans to return to the bench once she recovers, a family spokesman said on Monday.

District Judge Julie Kocurek, 51, remains in stable condition at an area hospital. "(She) is making great progress after being treated for an infection last week," family representative Bill Rhea said in a statement.

Harris County prosecutors intend to dismiss a Houston murder charge against a man who police also describe as the prime suspect in the assassination attempt on State District Judge Julie Kocurek...

The dismissal of the charge against 28-year-old Chimene Onyeri will allow him to be brought to Austin — likely in the next few days — to face a motion to revoke his probation on a 2012 larceny charge in Travis County, Onyeri’s Houston attorney, Sam Adamo, said.

The case involving Kocurek remains under investigation, and Onyeri has not been charged with that crime.

Trial started:

Burgin and Scott, and other alleged members of the criminal enterprise, are expected to testify in the two-month trial. Onyeri faces 17 charges, including one related to a racketeering conspiracy that carries a special sentencing allegation tied to the shooting. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

The jury is made up of 10 men and six women. Four of them are alternates.
