"A Texas mother and her boyfriend are behind bars after allegedly severely abusing her 2-year-old daughter, who died late Thursday after being removed from life support after three days.

According to arrest affidavits obtained by PEOPLE, Joshua Fulbright and Sarah Newsom, both 23, were arrested Monday after the couple brought the girl to the hospital. Each now faces a felony count of injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury.

Investigators allege that the victim, Scarlette Newsom, showed signs of substantial bruising across her back, arms and head...."

"...Scarlette Olivia Newsom, 2, was taken off life support Thursday afternoon. She was pronounced brain dead and her organs were donated, according to the child's aunt, Lauren Raindl.

Raindl contacted the Times Record News Friday afternoon with the news of the child's passing.

“She was the sweetest little girl," Raindl said in a phone interview. "She had beautiful blue eyes – everyone called her 'baby blue.' She could light up anyone’s day.”...

According to the Clay County Jail's online inmate roster, Joshua Thomas Fulbright and Sarah Elizabeth Newsom, both 23, remain charged with one count each of injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury – a first-degree felony.

Both were still behind bars in lieu of $250,000 bail each....

The Times Record News is working to find more information regarding any further criminal charges Fulbright and Sarah Newsom might be possibly facing. Updates will be posted as they become available....."

"A Texas couple could face upgraded charges after allegedly admitting to causing the head injuries that led to the death of the woman’s 2-year-old daughter....

Police said the boyfriend of the slain child’s mother, Joshua Thomas Fulbright, 23, admitted to striking Newsom on the left side of her head last week, leaving a sizable bruise. Fulbright claimed her mother, Sarah Elizabeth Newsom, 23, was in the room when he smacked her daughter, according to KFDX.

Fulbright reportedly said it was the following day when the 2-year-old began exhibiting seizure-like symptoms and vomited multiple times. According to the news station, police claimed the girl’s mother confessed to repeatedly smacking her daughter to stop her seizures before she became unresponsive.

The mother and boyfriend were charged with injury to a child four days before the toddler’s death. They remain jailed on $250,000 bail each."

CLAY COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) - A Clay County grand jury indicts a Dean mother and her boyfriend for the death of a 2-year-old girl.

Sarah Elizabeth Newsom and Joshua Thomas Fulbright are charged with injury to a child.

Back in October, the two were taken into custody after Sarah Newsom's daughter, Olivia, was severely injured with extreme bruising to her head, arms and back.
