Houston, Texas mother of six Shanell Monique Mosley was arrested in early 2008 after having left her children behind to go get married in Nigeria. On November 7, 2008, she was convicted of abandoning and endangering her children. Mosley was sentenced to take mandatory parenting classes and serve 150 hours of community service, and could face extended jail time if she violates any of the terms of her probation. Mosley testified in court that she had left food behind for the kids, and had thought her sister planned to travel to Houston to watch them. As part of her probation, Mosley must obtain a job and prove to the court that she has a clean and safe environment to raise her children before she can be reunited with them. Mosley was given until July, 2009 to implement the plan. Mosley is appealing the sentence.
