Apparantly someone else submitted it (thank you) and never posted the outcome or possibly they might not have known that this was looked into, so here is the email from the detective:

Yes, I did have the opportunity. I had previously already checked on that
unidentified in January of 2005 from information obtained from websleuths.com. I contacted Texas Dept of Pub Safety and they sent me dental records and they did not match Barbara Cotton. Thank you for your efforts.

I think she really looks a lot like Diane Dye, I don't see quite as much resemblance to the other girl but she is not far off though.

I would definitely send Diane Dye in as a possible match unless I've missed some important detail that would rule her out (?), maybe Dean Marie Peters too as she does look sort of similar.

ETA_ I just looked at the pics again and now I'm not so sure? I didn't look close enough the first time I guess.
It looks like Diane Dyes chin/jaw is quite different- pretty long and pointed, this unidentified girl actually has a small chin?

You have to remember also that the reconstruction may not be an exact likeness.

Depends on how much weight you put into the artists sketch of the UID. The nose and eyes look very different to me.
