U.S. officials verify specific and credible - but unconfirmed - 9/11 threat

My dad flew today from Raleigh to Newark. He's home now. He said that they seemed to scrutinize you a little more, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

Yep, sounds like security was pretty amped:

F16 Fighter jets scrambled to escort American Airlines jumbo after passenger 'used the toilet too many times'
Two fighter jets escorted a New York-bound American Airlines flight from Los Angeles after a passenger used the on-board toilet too many times before locking themselves in the bathroom.

A law enforcement official said it wasn't thought to be terrorism, and American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said, 'In our eyes, it's a big nothing.'
---
The nature of the incident was unclear, but the passengers locked themselves in the bathroom and were still inside when the plane landed, the law enforcement official said.

The jets intercepted the flight about 100 miles west of New York and shadowed it until it landed, said John Cornelio, spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service is investigating three threatening messages that were posted on the White House's Facebook page.

The messages included a picture of Osama bin Laden. One said, "We'll come back 11/9/2011 to kill u all." Another showed small plane icons and said, "Today we'll come 11/9/2011."

Another said, "We'll come to u white house sooooooooooon," says another

Somehow that doesn't make me feel any safer. For all we know the cell has been in this country for a year or more. Either overstayed their visas or snuck in through Canada or Mexico, or even here on a green card.

IIRC they didn't know the last terrorists were in the country either.

All any terrorist would have to do is hire a coyote, or wade across the Rio Grande like the other wetbacks do. This isn't brain surgery.

Since nothing happened, except a few got an adrenaline rush, and the powers that be had a chance to guage reactions, why worry? What will be, will be, and none of us, you and I, can do a thing about it except sacrifice more freedoms to keep us "safe". Except no one is ever "safe". After hiding in a house or apartment all weekend to escape terrorist attacks, you could walk out your front door and get killed by a bullet from a drive-by shooting, or your could get squashed by a semi on the highway. I think we need to quit worrying about foreign powers spreading terror on our soil and worry about things closer to home.

Edited to Add: I thought I had a post on here from Fri or Sat. Don't see it now, wonder why. Maybe it didn't fit in with the threat mode? Who knows, maybe it was another thread?

My opinion only

The worry, the anxiety and the fear, the apprehensive state of being afraid is what fuels terrorism. There can be an act every once in a while but it is the threat of violence is the genesis of terrorism. To me, it is no different that living on the same street as someone whose home you must pass by every single day and they walk behind you and threaten to kill you and threaten to kill your family and threaten you with bodily harm because you simply exsist.

I get apprehensive too but then---I get peeved. Real peeved. I refuse to let them dictate to me how I will live my life. I won't live my life in fear.

Be aware, be vigilent as always, but never let them control your life with your fears. Harder to do than say, I know. JMHO

I'm trying to understand how the president and other gvt officials can ignore a credible threat. imo
