A Local Team Office in 8 West Pilton Gardens in the north of the city was opened for people wanting to assist the search, which resumed at 10am. The Missing People charity is showing images of Mikaeel's face on big screens at railway stations and other public places.

Police have also released an image of Mikaeel in the beige hooded coat with a grey fur-lined hood.

Mikaeel is slim, 3ft, of Asian appearance and may have been wearing black gloves with multi-coloured fingers, dark navy blue jogging bottoms, a grey pyjama top with a distinctive embroidered turquoise dinosaur on the chest and brown Clarks shoes.

He has a faded scar on the bridge of his nose and a sore on the left hand side of his mouth.

Press Conference: Police wanting people to phone in if they think it was their child, so they can rule out that it might have a different boy.

Police said the area would have been busy at that time of day. Asking again "could it have been your boy?".

No hat missing from Mikaeel's house and police confirm that he doesn't like wearing hats.

Child in cctv was wearing a hat, but can't be identified via the cctv.

The map shows the child sighting area circled, (Pilton Grdns near Granton Road) Mikaeel's school crossed, (Flora Stevenson at 175 Comely Bank,) and Mikaeel's home in Ferry Gait crossed.

No confirmed sightings of Mikaeel.
Entirely possible that he left home of his own accord.
Entirely possible that he was subject to a criminal act.
Twin track investigations taking that into account.

Deployed specialist resources from Scotland, appropriately trained staff to offer community reassurances.

Mikaeel has not been back to nursery since before Christmas due to illness.
Confirmed M slept at home on Wednesday night (I think she meant he was put to bed).
Many lines of enquiries.
Slept alone, not sure which room.
Focused attention on areas M is known to frequent. Continuing to work with his mum/family as the search progresses.

The boy was running down West Pilton Gardens towards the coast - about half a mile from Mikaeel's home.

Police say he appears to be unaccompanied and is wearing a cap.

They want to speak to anyone who saw the boy or who thinks it may be their child to eliminate the sighting from their inquiries.

Hundreds of people have joined in the search for missing Mikaeel as police said they are becoming increasingly concerned.

An army of volunteers have braved the wet and cold to sign up and help officers comb the streets in search of the boy.

Police admitted this morning they are 'deeply concerned' for his welfare after having received no confirmed sightings of the boy since they launched an investigation more than 40 hours ago.
