SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Kouri Richins, the Kamas, Utah, woman who is accused of murdering husband Eric Richins with a dose of fentanyl that would have killed five people, is facing a $13 million lawsuit from his estate.
The suit was filed on behalf of Eric Richins' sister, Katie Richins-Benson, who is the estate's trustee. It was followed by a motion asking the court to take measures so Kouri couldn't profit off Eric's death.
The complaint was filed Tuesday in Utah's Third District Court, and comes in response to
a civil lawsuit filed by Kouri Richins' against her deceased husband's estate earlier in the month, a suit nearly identical to
one filed in 2022 claiming ownership rights of the his home and business assets. The two suits are separate and ongoing.
Katie Richins-Benson's suit lobs multiple allegations against Kouri Richins, including that she forged documents to secure a $250,000 loan and that she used her husband's death for profit by selling an illustrated children's book that uses his likeness throughout called "Are You With Me?" which focuses on handling the death of a loved one. It was published days away from the one-year anniversary of his death.
