GUILTY VA - Heather Ciccone, 21, fatally shot, Spotsylvania County, 6 Dec 2015

Perjury trial in Ciccone case delayed after Spotsylvania judge steps aside

Joshua C. Williams, Danielle S. Long and Clinton E. Williams are all charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit perjury. The charges stem from taped phone calls Joshua Williams made to Clinton Williams, his brother, and Long, the mother of his children, on Dec. 6 from the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

A joint jury trial was supposed to be held Wednesday in Spotsylvania Circuit Court and about 100 potential jurors had been summoned to court. But the trial was put on hold Tuesday afternoon, when Judge Ricardo Rigual agreed to not preside over it.

Rigual agreed to turn the case over to Judge Gordon Willis, who will hear motions on June 29 and perhaps set a new trial date.

A trial date has been set for three people charged with perjury in the Heather Ciccone murder case in Spotsylvania County.

Joshua C. Williams, Danielle S. Long and Clinton E. Williams each face three counts of conspiracy to commit perjury. The charges stem from taped phone calls Joshua Williams made to Clinton Williams, his brother, and Long, the mother of his children, on Dec. 6 from the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The joint perjury trial is set for Oct. 11 and 12 in Spotsylvania Circuit Court.

Ciccone killer's attorney seeks to have convictions overturned in Spotsylvania

Aug 7, 2018

"...Jonathan J. Vejarano, 29, also was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and a firearms offense during a seven-day jury trial that ended June 6 in Spotsylvania County Circuit Court. The jury recommended that Vejarano serve life plus eight years in prison and he is scheduled to be formally sentenced next week.

But Vejarano’s attorney, Vincent Robertson, recently filed a motion asking that the convictions be set aside. Robertson wrote that one of the string of felons called to testify against Vejarano, Tristan Wargas, recently admitted in a letter to the Spotsylvania Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office that he lied during his testimony..."

Sentencing delayed in Vejarano case; hearing set for motion for a new trial

Aug 14, 2018

"Formal sentencing for a man convicted of killing Spotsylvania County resident Heather Ciccone has been delayed until Oct. 29.

Jonathan J. Vejarano, 29, was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges on June 6 in Spotsylvania Circuit Court. A jury recommended that he serve life plus eight years in prison.

Vejarano was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday, but Judge Ricardo Rigual continued the case. Court records indicate that the area probation office did not receive the request to prepare a report on Vejarano in time for this week’s sentencing...."

Man convicted of murdering Heather Ciccone pleads to perjury charge in Spotsylvania

Oct 3, 2018

"A man serving a 38-year prison sentence for his role in the 2015 slaying of Spotsylvania County resident Heather Ciccone was convicted Wednesday of setting up a phony alibi during his murder trial.

Joshua Christopher Williams, 30, entered an Alford plea in Spotsylvania Circuit Court to a charge of conspiracy to commit perjury. He will face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 2.

In exchange for Williams’ plea, Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Angela O’Connor dropped two related perjury charges. An Alford plea carries the same effect of a guilty plea—the defendant doesn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him.

Williams was convicted of first-degree murder in December of last year in connection with the Dec. 6, 2015, slaying of the 21-year-old Ciccone...

Prosecutors proved that Williams arranged the killing and got Jonathan J. Vejarano to carry out the hit. Vejarano has also been convicted of first-degree murder: a jury has recommended a sentence of life plus eight years for Vejarano, but he has not yet been formally sentenced...."

Long convicted of perjury in Ciccone case, but released from jail

"Danielle Sheree Long became a convicted felon Friday, but she also became a free woman for the first time since late December.

Long, 25, was convicted of two counts of conspiracy to commit perjury in a case stemming from the slaying of Spotsylvania County resident Heather Ciccone. The jury acquitted her of a third charge following the three-day trial in Spotsylvania Circuit Court.

But the jury's recommended sentence of 60 days in jail meant that Long was able to get out of jail Friday since she's already served more than nine months.

Judge Michael McKenney imposed the sentence Friday as neither prosecutor Ryan Mehaffey nor defense attorney Jason Pelt requested a formal sentencing hearing....

Prior to sentencing Long, the jury heard from both of her parents. Both said she was well on her way to recovering from the abuse she suffered from Williams when she was arrested late last year, and Craig Long said his daughter had suffered enough.

The sentence given by the jury was the exact one requested by Pelt, who pointed out that Long had no prior record.

Long was also fined a total of $5,000."

Jonathan J. Vejarano, 29, received the sentence of life plus eight years that a Spotsylvania Circuit Court jury recommended in June after finding him guilty of first-degree murder and two other charges.

Joshua C. Williams was also convicted of first-degree murder and is serving a 38-year prison sentence.

Danielle Long was convicted of two felony charges earlier this month, but was released from jail after the jury recommendation of 60 days in prison was far less than what she’d already served.

Thank you JerseyGirl!

I have on my list that Williams will be sentenced 1/2/19, but you say he is serving his sentence already.
So - this case is closed then?

Thought I'd post what I have for the 1/2/19 sentencing:

12/12/17 found guilty. Sentenced (3/9/18) to 38 years in prison. Also charged with 3 counts of conspiracy to commit perjury. Entered Alford Plea (10/3/18). Faces 10 year sentence. Sentencing scheduled for 1/2/19.

So he will be sentenced for the conspiracy to commit perjury on that date.

I’m so glad this sweet girl finally got some justice! I remember all the messages in the beginning of this case that DL had sent to Heather, threatening her, stalking her. Then it seemed like DL moved on to harass another young lady after HC’s death, iirc. So sad, all these young lives lost, ruined, wasted.

Ciccone killer gets more time for probation violations, perjury conviction

"A man who was already serving a 38-year prison term for the 2015 slaying of Heather Ciccone was ordered Wednesday to serve just under 13 additional years.

Joshua Christopher Williams, 30, was sentenced in Spotsylvania Circuit Court to a total of 12 years and 11 months in prison. Combined with the time he got for his first degree murder conviction in December 2017, Williams now has nearly 51 years of prison time.

He was sentenced Wednesday on a perjury conviction and three probation violations. The perjury charge stems from Williams' attempt to concoct a phony alibi during his murder trial from a phone in the Rappahannock Regional Jail. The probation violations stemmed from prior escape and drug convictions...."
