LCSO Seeks Public’s Assistance in Locating Missing Person

Bumpass, VA – The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office requests the public’s assistance locating a missing person.

Maya Olivia Smith was last seen renting a boat from a Lake Anna business in Spotsylvania County, VA on May 11, 2024, around 12:30 PM.

Maya Smith was last seen wearing a purple sweater jacket with a zipper, and baggy dark blue or black pants.

It was also reported that she no longer looks like the attached picture and though an updated picture was not available from her family, we were advised that she now has highlights, and short “poofy” hair.

On Sunday, May 12, 2024, a report was taken by the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office about an abandoned boat stuck on a sandbar in Lake Anna, located around Bear Castle Drive, Bumpass VA.

The boat matched the description of the one rented by Maya Smith on the previous day. Several personal belongings of Maya Smith were located aboard the boat, and nothing was located indicating foul play.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office Marine Units, with the assistance of Louisa County Fire & EMS, and Spotsylvania Fire & EMS boats using sonar, checked the water in the area where the boat was located with negative results.

This is currently an active investigation, and you are asked that if you have any information on the whereabouts of Maya Olivia Smith, please get in touch with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office at (540)967-1234, or anonymously at (800)346-1466. Thanks for your assistance in this matter.

Hoping she is okay. Finding the rental boat at least gives LE somewhere to start. Is there anywhere in that area where she could be camping out, or staying with someone in a house? Did she plan to meet someone there?
Hoping LE and other officials possibly at the lake can make a good search for her.

She has several open cases in the courts in Virginia which might shed light on where her mind was at when she went missing. She was recently charged with a violation of a protective order, last court action May 7, another hearing scheduled in early July. Charges also (separate case, but same time frame) for stalking. She was also recently found guilty of harassment by computer. None are felonies, but all are Class 1 Misdemeanors which can bring 12 months incarceration for a charge. So many possibilities given her possible mind set, and the circumstances, especially in that she had a failure to appear on one of the charges (that case is separate and is closed - Case # GC23008530-01) Virginia Judiciary Online Case Information System
