A simple explanation from my brain dead mind tonight is, court dockets/proceedings, documents, transcripts...even mug shots can be requested by the media to be published, and they are.

Certain things, of course the courts will deny pending trial. That's how we all got to see thousands and thousands of things related to the Casey Anthony case in advance of the trial.

If I left something out, or said it wrong... sumbunny please feel free to correct me/or add. I've simply got to catch some Zzzz's now. Nighty-nite all. lol

Hope you slept well....I'll just add to it:

United States
Main article: Freedom of information in the United States
In the United States the Freedom of Information Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 4, 1966 and went into effect the following year. Ralph Nader has been credited with the impetus for creating this act, among others.[57] The Electronic Freedom of Information Act Amendments were signed by President Bill Clinton on October 2, 1996.
The Act applies only to federal agencies. However, all of the states, as well as the District of Columbia and some territories, have enacted similar statutes to require disclosures by agencies of the state and of local governments, though some are significantly broader than others. Some state and local government agencies attempt to get around state open records laws by claiming copyright for their works and then demanding high fees to license the public information.[citation needed] The ruling in Santa Clara v. CFAC will likely curtail the abuse of copyright to avoid public disclosure in California, but agencies in other states like Texas and New York continue to hide behind copyright.[citation needed] Some states expand government transparency through open meeting laws, which require government meetings to be announced in advance and held publicly.

Another article...Florida is well known for it....and a good reason why most of the cases NG gets into for the long haul is because she can access so much info.

Virginia does not. Virginia LE is very tight lipped about ongoing cases.

Still can't get over the great news she was found ALIVE!

Is there a mug shot of JE out there yet? I was gone all day and don't have the time now to search the net now.

Wonder if Cali, or Virginia have the same Sunshine laws as Florida does? That'd be a plus!

I thought I heard/read after they were found that her dad was to go with the detectives to escort her home? I looked but could not find the source I heard/read that. I would think family would bring her home unless like someone else had said they need to preserve anything she may say as evidence.

A day after the nearly week-long manhunt, Lavinder offered a few new details in the murder and abduction case. The Dodge Neon Easley and Smith travelled in was located at a parking lot near the San Francisco International Airport.

Easley has also formally been named as the prime suspect in the murder of Brittany Smith's mother, 41-year-old Tina Smith.

and

There will be no new information concerning Tina Smith's cause and manner of death.

i am so glad they found her safe and unharmed. JE should never ever see the outside of a prison again. my hope now is that BS wasn't there to witness her mother's murder :(

Really thought I had read or seen this as well, but would not even begin to know where to document it now. Do think it may take at least a couple more days to have her ready to travel back. And when she comes back, does she go to Salem/Roanoke/South Boston/Ayden? (I mean immediately when she gets back). Certainly they would not have her entering the home for any reason, even with a family member. That would probably be too unbearable for her. Also would think a female from Roanoke/Salem, like a social worker, or a child advocate would have to be with them on that trip back to Virginia.

Would like to know the last day TS worked and the last day BS was at school.

Was it in the original press conference the day they found her? I keep thinking that's where I heard it? Haven't had a chance to look yet.

Police call Jeffrey Easley a suspect in death of Tina Smith [with VIDEO]
Jeffrey Easley, an accused abductor, ended up in San Francisco with Brittany Smith, begging for money

Brittany Smith's accused abductor, a suspect in the death of the 12-year-old girl's mother, was driving the girl across the country while police worked tirelessly last week pursuing tips, searching campgrounds and holding daily news conferences pleading with the public to be vigilant.

Jeffrey Easley, 32, and Brittany ended up in San Francisco, outside a Safeway grocery store with backpacks and a cardboard sign begging for money, Roanoke County Police Chief Ray Lavinder said Saturday.

A woman who recognized Brittany and Easley from a television show called police, who arrested Easley and placed Brittany in the care of Child Protective Services. She didn't appear to be physically harmed, Lavinder said.

Brittany's relatives, who appeared twice at news conferences last week making emotional pleas for Easley to let Brittany go, rejoiced over his arrest.

"I'm just happy that we have her back," said Brittany's grandmother,..........

..........................................................................................

I am praying hard that BS had nothing to do with her mothers fate, the rest of her family will devestated, especially this grandmother........moo

So relieved this young lady is safe and Easley in custody. No matter whether this child was misguided and with him willingly or was dragged off unwillingly, she is safe, her family can rest easy that they are not burrying her as well.

Now the wheels of justice can begin to turn and a family can begin to grieve.
