I'm very pleased that the judge refused to accept Bryer's denial that his choice of career had nothing to do with his crimes. Note how Bryer not only groomed the little boys (probably 9-10 years old) but also their families. By the book.

Former teacher gets 12 years for molestation
September 28, 2011
"HYDE PARK (AP) -- A former Vermont schoolteacher and civic leader was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday for sexually molesting boys, offering an apology but denying his crimes were connected to his role as a teacher. "The illegal sexual actions in which I participated were wrong and deplorable," Shaun C. Bryer, 30, said before Judge Dennis Pearson accepted his plea deal with prosecutors..."
and
"Bryer, a former fifth-grade teacher at the Morrisville Elementary School and elected leader who chaired the Morristown Selectboard, was arrested in 2009, a week after he started his dream job in the Colchester school district, where he had been a student teacher in 2002...."
and
"....Bryer met two of his victims when they were in the third grade, befriending them and their parents. The boys and others would visit him at his apartment, where, they told investigators, he showed them pornographic movies, gave them cash and eventually began molesting them...."
"...Bryer said in his statement to the court that he "did not use my position as a teacher as an avenue to pursue inappropriate relationships with children. I had no ulterior, subversive motives in entering the field of education or becoming an elementary school teacher. Teaching is a profession that I deeply respect and have genuine passion for. But the judge made it clear Bryers role as a teacher had affected his thinking about the case...."
and
"...As he handed down the sentence, the judge said, "Its difficult enough for our teenage boys to find their footing and to grow up and mature in todays society, without a trusted mentor, a friend, and a presumably positive adult role model taking advantage of that relationship over many years to inflict grievous and irreparable psychological harm...."
