GUILTY WI - Berit Beck, 18, abducted & murdered, Fond du Lac, 17 July 1990

The FB I have has the same photo as his profile pic, as the one in the news article. And it shows him as separated. And it does not place him in MN. It is his FB.

I just happened to look in "cold cases" on a whim and found this thread! I'm so happy that LE might finally solve this case! I've been praying for answers for Berit and her loved ones!

"Fond du Lac County Sheriff Lt. Cameron McGee said the new developments in the Beck case have prompted interest from investigators in 14 other unsolved cases from Arizona to Iowa to Ohio, including that of Tammy Zywicki, another college-bound blonde.

Two years after Beck's killing, Zywicki was driving to college in Iowa when her car broke down on Interstate 80 in Illinois. Witnesses saw her near her car. A man and a big rig stopped nearby. Zywicki's body was found later along Interstate 44 in rural Missouri; she had been sexually assaulted and stabbed."
Brantner remains a free man and now lives near Beck's parents in Racine County

Now a search warrant on file in Fond du Lac County discloses that Brantner’s fingerprints were found on several items recovered from Beck’s van: a Burger King cup, a Boldt (Beck’s employer) Employee Manual, and Jolen Bleach Kit. The bleach kit was one of the items Beck had purchased at Fond du Lac’s Forest Mall Walgreen’s store the day she disappeared...

The evidence was not new. It had been recovered from Beck’s van and submitted to the Crime Lab in 1990. When investigators asked the Crime Lab to retest evidence late last year, the fingerprint match with Brantner was made.

WCCA shows Dennis Brantner's current address as 8414 25th Court, Kenosha, WI 53143

On the below map I show all Brantner's other five previous addresses in Kenosha which are listed on US Search. The red dot shows 2007 64th St, Kenosha, WI., which is where Mary Ellen Kaldenberg lived when she was kidnapped and found murdered in a hearse near the railroad tracks ten blocks west of her house. Those tracks can be seen running at a slant (SW to NE) in the photo from near 8011 60th Ave to near 2210 55th St, two of Brantner's previous addresses. Brantner would have been 15-16 years old at the time of Kaldenberg's still unsolved murder. I wonder if he lived in Kenosha in 1967 or had relatives who did? To me, Kaldenberg's murder appears to have been done by another juvenile.

The Racine Journal Times October 21, 1974 shows an article in their paper where Dennis Brantner (age 21-22) is working at Jupiter Discount Store at 430 Main St. in Racine, WI , so I know he was living nearby in 1974.

The search warrant documents included statements from an expert in serial and sexual homicides, saying that offenders in those cases often collect mementos, like photographs and newspaper clippings, or keep items taken from their victims.

Kenosha Circuit Judge Chad Kerkman allowed the search warrant to stand, saying “characteristics of what (Brantner) has done in the past can be consistent with a sexual homicide or even a serial homicide.”

Kerkman also noted that it would be believable that if Brantner was a sexual or serial murderer, he “would keep these mementos at his place of residence, wherever that place of residence is.”

I wonder how many others he's killed since 1973 when he first started his criminal career breaking into cars and garages?

The sheriff's office and the Fond du Lac County district attorney's office will hold a news conference Monday to discuss the case against Brantner, who became a suspect almost a year ago after evidence from Beck's van connected him to the killing... "This is the first time we had tangible physical evidence to put someone in the interior of that van."

Wisconsin court records show that Brantner was divorced in March 1995 and convicted of violating a domestic abuse restraining order and habitual criminality the following September. Other documents show Brantner was charged with kidnapping and assaulting his estranged wife in Illinois in 1994 and was sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of lesser charges...

Those documents portrayed Brantner as an "angry, vindictive man" who received a dishonorable discharge from the military and who once warned his wife, "Think of O.J.," referring to the O.J. Simpson murder case.

The whole blindfold thing should tell us something..but what? Why blindfold her if she ended up deceased anyway? Sorry this is just how my mind works.

Report cites investigators' missteps in search for killer of Wisconsin teen found dead in '90

Citing court records and search warrants, a review by the Gannett Wisconsin Media Investigative Team found the investigation into the killing of Berit Beck of Sturtevant was "plagued by long lapses, missteps and flawed theories."

About their previous suspect (weird detail about the hairbrush, so how did he get it?):

""Sheriff's investigators took the position that the Beck family's conversion van — and not the pretty young blonde woman — was the intended target of the crime," the article says.

The West Bend man, Craig Hron, was long suspected in Beck's death because her hair brush was found in his possession and because of other circumstantial evidence that placed him in Fond du Lac on that day, according to media reports at the time."

Is it possible that Brantner might be tied to more unsolved murders?

He had a truck and 20 years to go....

"Remembering Berit Beck, 25 years later"

http://journaltimes.com/news/local/remembering-berit-beck-years-later/article_a713bdf0-9048-5799-be02-a4cb076d6822.html

“It hurt to have all those opportunities taken away from her for no reason,” said Diane Beck, who marked the anniversary Thursday by putting flowers on her daughter’s grave with her husband, David, their son Ben, and his three sons, Kaleb, Kyle, and Nathan, who never got to meet their aunt.

Diane Beck said when they go to her daughter’s grave, “We know she is not there. Her remains are there but her soul is no longer there.”

Still she said they go there to talk to her, to vent and, “to let her know how much we love and miss her.”
