I think the reason no one knew before is because unless you check the fbi list (I don't know anyone who does that besides my friends from here and myself) would see it. Definitely kids his age wouldn't notice it. It was running on the huffington post and within 30 hours they arrested him. I do not think they knew who he was prior to that, despite his age I feel like he's a true threat and I don't think police would allow him to be around his siblings or other minors

concerning the perp though, anyone else get the vibe that there is MUCH more to this and that's why the fbi was so involved and hasn't treated him like a victim in anyway shape or form? I know because this was online, chat room I think and the images were found in another sweep that the fBI was already involved in it but .. something in this case doesn't sit well. Yes.
I had a gut feeling. ICE and HSI were able to use the latest technology to get into the admin of this underground site and find the 14 that they arrested who operated it. But the site had 27,000 members who likely could also upload. He may be the only goon who put so many images of his own face in his upload that finding him may help them find more of the 27,000 customers. It's those people that the material really comes from.

The "material" primarily came from the juvenile victims, themselves. KG crossed the line from victim to perp when he engaged in an act with the baby.
“Never before in the history of this agency have we identified and located this many minor victims in the course of a single child exploitation investigation,” said ICE Deputy Director Daniel Ragsdale. “Our agency is seeing a growing trend where children are being enticed, tricked and coerced online by adults to produce sexually explicit material of themselves.

The website shared webcam-captured videos of mostly juvenile boys enticed by the operators of the site to produce sexually explicit material. The investigation has been going on since last summer. Jonathan Johnson was arrested in June. Then on August 5 -- three days after the release of the KG bulletin -- Christopher Schwab was arrested. Following their arrests, others were charged in November. So there was a progression over nine months, but the records were kept sealed until just recently. I have a hunch the perps rolled all over each other seeking plea agreements.

In newly unsealed court records, federal prosecutors accuse Johnson of frequently encouraging viewers of the websites to search for, locate and entice young boys into creating sexually explicit videos, by tapping into social networking sites and sometimes impersonating females online to initiate conversation. Investigators said they discovered more than 2,000 explicit images of young boys on the sites and have so far identified about 160 of the youths.
Johnson was indicted last June on 12 counts of production of child *advertiser censored* and 2 counts of distribution of child *advertiser censored*. In new court papers filed Tuesday, he is now only charged with one count, which suggests that Johnson may be cooperating with prosecutors.

I just did a search and found out he was on socialcam. That link has been deactivated and is no longer valid but his picture is on there. When did a search of socialcam, some questionable stuff shows up. Seems people don't only use it like they'd use FaceTime, looks like they also post & share videos too, live streaming, etc.
 
Absolutely amazing. I love ICE and all the entities within them. What a hard job! I hope they know how much they're appreciated! This child crap has to stop! Personally, I'm starting to think age limits should be in place for Internet use unless authorities catchup to and surpass evolving technology. Seems predators are everywhere online.

Further to explain, if it weren't for Websleuths, I wouldn't have known about this case as I didn't see it on any of my news channels here, but it was probably aired in TX as that's thought to be where the hat was obtained. Make sense? But then we found the flat brim on that website and posted it to ICE's FB page to show the perp could have actually ordered it online, then SanFran posted about that eBay listing which pointed further north, so maybe that helped to open ICE's search boundaries? Maybe?

That's certainly possible. I will say the SM response was phenomenal on Tuesday, much greater than in August. The news coverage does seem to have reached out further this week, too, in conjunction with the press conference. So I don't want to downplay any of that. According to ICE, the arrest was made within 30 hours of the media release. Can't knock that. It's wonderful.

Ditto. It's amazing the show of support and proactive tips that were posted and sent in once this stuff hit the waves again. The outpouring of help on Facebook alone could have solved this months ago! I agree with kids being on in summer vs during school making a difference. The collaborative effort with all the news media was broader and in sync this time, whereas ver the summer there was space inbetween broadcasts and channels. Remember we were wondering why ICE didn't post to every law enforcement page? I think somebody said maybe its bc not all use FB etc. well I think it'd be a good idea for ICE FBI etc to utilize whatever are the strongest used social media at he time of their release and do it in abundance when it comes to a case like this. Facebook is still popular but there's something else out there now too. Also, Instagram and what's that other one that you post a pic or comment & it's gone nice its shared? I forget.

Side note... I just found out my xfinity has a missing endangered section with tons of missing people's info on there. I've never once used it. Didn't even know it was there. So did it do its job if nobody's really looking at it? So in regards to the more heinous crimes, why don't the authorities bombard the net and media with splashes of info including pictures all at once in a very large area? If its collectively done utilizing all media sections of their agencies, it'd force people to see this stuff. Maybe these crimes could get solved quicker.

Thank you for all this info . While I have read through most of those links, my BBM above is what I had not considered. I had not looked at KG as a victim turned predator. I had only looked at him as one of the 27,000 members who likely had taken advantage of the tutorials on how to trick minors into creating sexually explicit videos

Part of that impression is his feminized looks that caused confusion among many as though he was trying to play up his features and look female to trick younger victims.

Seeing him as also a victim now gives me a sinking feeling. Though I know he was likely victimized himself as a child, because that cycle is well known and understood, if he is also a victim of these 14 who ran this website I fear that the chances of him Actually going through a trial as and ADULT may be successfully challenged by a slick attorney. That could impact his sentencing severely. :(
 
So so sad that such a young person is so sick.

He needs help, but he is a danger to others.

We deserve to be protectd.

He knew it was wrong, he made the choice to victimize another.

ICE could of and they probably did have him within reach. I didn't realize they were looking for him or had put his picture out sooner. it just seemed a lot of people new who he was. either way Im so happy he was found.

yes I for some reason feel like this kid did something really bad. I mean of course its all bad. But this just feels like its worse.

I think LE using SM Is ingenious. Our State and County police department both have fb pages and they OFTEN post pics of bank robbers, credit card thiefs etc in an effort to ID the perps. There have been several incidents around here of SM playing a role in helping LE.

Of course it helps that we live in a small state where everybody practically knows anybody that knows somebody :)

Apparently many of the students from his school had posted and messaged on that FB site identifying kG as the person in the ICE bulletin. There were thousands of posts.

That combined with the work that was done here by some great WS'rs identifying the hoodie and where it was sold helped this conclude very quickly!
