OK, that's three of you now. I give up. lol

Ha sorry, wasn't meaning to argue! I can see why you would do a double take on the "best friend" wording. It wasn't until this girl I just barely knew called me one of her BFFs that I realized there was a major generational gap, even though I'm only 15 years older. She also happens to be a military wife and I've noticed that she makes new friends really fast due to them getting moved around so much. Is this true for Erin as well?

OK, you and moonbeams disagree so maybe I'm crazy on this one. lol Not sure how the marines work, but my son hasn't had that happen in the Army. The unit trains and gets deployed together, but it's the individual who's transferred.

This is correct. The individuals in a platoon, company, or battalion deploy together. A change of station comes up at different times for different individuals (and, of course, their families). As a spouse, you may meet a gal you click with from the start but find out they are scheduled to transfer to a new location soon after the friendship becomes meaningful. The soldier enters into another job right away and you're left to start over alone in a new environment (you meet new people but they're strangers again).

Throughout this investigation I have read articles that have given the reason for her trip to Joshua Tree that morning as: looking for a campsite, planning a family outing, looking for hiking trails, looking for things to do together when her mother arrives, scouting out locations to take pictures with her mom, and now, looking for places for a picnic. The media has been all over the place with this.

Voice4 wow that took a lot of research, thank you for all of that!

I don't think 'best friend' is unusual. Aren't military-types generally transferred with their squad/unit to another base? The 'bestie' may be a 'brother' in his unit.

No, but JC was in Okinawa with his unit and most likely developed a stronger bond with another marine there.
Basically, it's just like normal life but the nature of the work, the isolation from everyone else (wife, family, familiar routines) can make relationships form more quickly imo. The two personalities may have meshed better so maybe they hung out when off duty and stuff. (If the story is even true to begin with which remains to be seen.)

Does anyone know if a warrant is required for a search on base housing, since the property is govt owned? Are military police involved along with the county? It's possible she was killed at home and not in the desert. Sorry if that's already been discussed, I'm new here today.

Jmo, but it looks to me that LE believes Erin went to JT. I doubt very much they would be out there searching simply because her husband told them she said she was going there. I do not find it that odd...she was in a new place, she would want to show her parents local attractions or areas. Maybe she did tell her husband more about her plans, but we (the public) have not been informed. Maybe LE knows her pings stopped at the park, for example and any later plans she may have had are not much of an issue.

Also, IMO, a "best friend" can also be one's best friend in a particular place. I have a "best friend" where I live now, and also someone I consider my "best friend" from back home. Jmo

Oh, I didn't think any of you were arguing at all!!! I just wasn't seeing it, but I think it's the difference in age thing. (As much as I hate to admit it! lol) I wasn't thinking of today's "BFFs" that seem to change frequently. I was thinking of tried and true, long term best friends, who experience the good and bad times with you and endure over time. But there I go showing my age again! lol

You have done a TON of research!!! I'm going to go through all of these and take another - closer - look. It's so weird how many little details like this get missed when we read quickly through all these posts and links. Thank you!!!

Thank you for clearing up how the marines do it. It must be so difficult for all you military spouses out there!!

Search for Erin Corwin continues at Joshua Tree
Sherry Barkas, The Desert Sun 10:14 p.m. PDT July 13, 2014

JOSHUA TREE – Search teams returned to Joshua Tree National Park on Sunday morning to continue combing the park’s terrain and mines for Erin Corwin, 19, the pregnant wife of a Twenty*nine Palms Marine who hasn’t been seen since June 28.

In town, where many businesses were closed on Sunday, there was little that told visitors of the two-week search for Corwin. No fliers or posters in windows, stapled to telephone poles or anywhere in Joshua Tree or around the park entrances with Corwin’s picture.

They are still searching JT...Imo, they believe she is there.

Even between October and May, the prime time to visit JT and - drat - sheep something hole (ha!), there are many reasons NOT to picnic or go camping in these parts imo.
While reading about a campsite location today, they warned about being on the lookout for rattlesnakes, lizards, ravens, coyotes, squirrels, bees, and my favorite, desert tarantulas - :panic:
Not to mention flash floods and other sudden dangers!

:hot:, :desert:, no :phone: service, wild :lamb: sheep, poison :snake:, :bee: hives, and, :sponge: Bob!

Raise your hands, who wants to go camping?

You forgot to mention the possibility of falling down one of the sporadic 747 mine openings, Woe! :hills:

In dispatch radio traffic recorded at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, an unidentified deputy in the field is in communication with his sergeant.

“Hey Sarge, I made contact with the RP (reporting party) over the phone. He says his wife left yesterday around 0700 and was supposed to return 1600,” the deputy reported. “She has no family. They’re from Tennessee. She’s less than two months pregnant.”

Investigators now say Corwin is three months pregnant.

At the time of the recording, Corwin had been missing for 16 hours. The deputy had just gotten off the phone with the pregnant woman’s husband, U.S. Marine Corporal Jonathan Corwin.
The husband did not provide the deputy with a description of the clothing his wife was wearing when she disappeared, according to the radio audio.

http://www.cbs8.com/story/25971456/t...-disappearance

from the beginning it was stated that Erin found out she was pregnant On Fathers Day and that she told no one in her family==only her husband. And the husband has told LE that she was 2 MONTHS pregnant. And the Mom has stated there was a doctors appointment scheduled the week following her missing to find out more about the pregnancy. but of course that never happened. SO--we only have the information about the length of the pregnancy from the husband.
however--LE has recently adjusted her pregnancy to be 3 MONTHS. so something OR someone has given them better information about the pregnancy than the husband had so that they could adjust the time she has been pregnant. hmmmmmm interesting.

Or it was a typo initially.

I dont think "she's less than 2 months pregnant" and "Investigators now say Corwin is three months pregnant" sounds like a typo. sounds like an adjustment they made based on new information gained through their investigation. Could be Erin told a friend exactly how pregnant she was.
