• His age (19-20 depending on DOB) is at the low end of the John Doe’s estimated age range (20-35).
• His height (6’1”) is within an inch of the John Doe’s estimated height (6’2”).
• His eyes are blue, as are the John Doe’s eyes.
• His hair is brown, as is the John Doe’s hair, and is styled approximately the same as the depiction in the facial reconstruction drawing.
• His Date of Last Contact (20-Apr-1981) is six months prior to the discovery of the John Doe (with a postmortem interval of 1-3 months, according to DoeNetwork.org)
• Lechner County KY is about 470 miles north of Fort Valley GA.
• He bears a good resemblance to the person depicted in the facial reconstruction drawing

I sent an e-mail to Pamela Reed and Amy Burrows, and received the following prompt reply from Pamela Reed:

Thank you for this suggestion. I have passed it along to LE for follow up. Keep ‘em coming and have a wonderful weekend.

Good shout ... UID looks like he was a pretty big guy though (estimated at 190 lbs), while Bobby Crook was only 120 - 130 (which is *really* skinny for the height). Of course depending on the extent of decomposition they might just have taken a guess at weight based on height alone.

Other than that, there doesn't seem to be much against this being a match - REC was possibly voluntarily missing pending the suspension of his drivers' license (although that on its own doesn't seem enough reason to go missing to me)...

I don't think the 120-130 lb estimate is right. Even 160 lbs at 6'1" would be really skinny. 120-130 would be skin and bones.

What about Ralph Leon Jensen Jr. ?
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/j/jensen_ralph.html

Everything is spot on except for distance. Ralph went missing from Alaska in March. The UID was found in October in Kentucky.
Both are 6'2
Both have brown hair and blue eyes.
Ralph's weight is 200. The UID is 190.

There is another case from Harlan County, Kentucky from June 1969 where the body of an unidentified woman was also found on Pine Mountain.

I just wonder how far the bodies were from each other when they were found on Pine Mountain in 1969 and in 1981.

Though it is called a "mountain," Pine Mountain is more of a long, tall ridge that stretches NE/SE through a few counties. The Little Shepherd Trail is a road that runs along the ridge from north of Harlan (town) through Harlan County into Letcher County, forming the county line for a bit. Pine Mountain also extends into Bell County (Pineville) where Pine Mountain State Resort Park is located.

I snipped that real quick and tried to highlight the basic area where the top part of the Pine Mountain ridge was in Harlan County. It extends into Letcher County (right) and Bell County (left).

Above is SE Letcher County. Little Shepherd Trail is purple.

Bumping this up because I noticed they added a sketch(?) with a front view to his Namus file:

So I went through the missing people of 1981 again and found this missing young man:

William Woolheater

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/39dmny.html

He went missing in February 1981 and was on his way to New Orleans. His age, height, hair color and weight match and he was in a car accident where he broke his nose. I think he resembles the sketch.

What doesn't match is that he also broke an ankle and there's no mention of that in our Doe's file. There's also contradictory statements whether William actually arrived in New Orleans or not (Doenetwork says he did, Charleyproject says he didn't) and the eye color... well, William's are brown, Doenetwork says Doe's were blue, and as source they give his Namus profile, but there is actually no eye color entered in his Namus profile, so not sure what to make of this info??

Here are two more possiable matches I found on doenetwork

1. Frank H. Johnston

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/253dmak.html

Here are a few of the reasons I think he may be a match

1. His hair color is the same as the UIDs

2. His eye color is the same as the UIDs

3. His height is only an inch off from the UIDs estamited height range

4. His weight is about ten pounds off from the UIDs estamited weight range

5. His age is only one year off from the UIDs age range

The second possible match is Robert Bruce Clements
