He wouldn't need to make "flurry" of calls for a regular withdrawal, I would think.

Unless he was trying to get more money in addition to a regular withdrawal. There wasn't a need for him to be calling anyone after the money was delivered, yet part of that flurry was came substantially after the money was delivered.

I've been an Executive Assistant for around 15 years and worked for some very wealthy individuals ie net worth ranging from 100m - 10b+.

In Australia the average wage for a corporate C-suite Executive Assistant is around $100k + benefits. From what I understand (having worked for an American company) the USA has similar wages for this role. Starting out you may earn $75k; if you've been with a company for a long time, have a bonus component, or have other specialist skills it could easily be double that. This may seem crazy to some, but despite popular understanding assistants these days are generally very skilled, hold degrees, and most definitely have a lot more responsibility than answering the phone inbetween painting their nails.

I'm not sure what the average wage is for drivers, however I just checked and my current boss' driver is paid $74k + benefits. He's been with him for 3 years now. Again, might seem like a lot for some but he's on call pretty much 24/7 and is privy to a lot of confidential information.

Long story short - I wouldn't risk my job and peoples lives for a share of $40k.

A couple of other notes:

A few posters have mentioned they thought it was strange SS was driven to/from work. For CEO types drivers aren't a status symbol, more of a time saving necessity. If his office was 45 min away that's 1.5 hours travel time per day (more if he went to/from offsite meetings). All my bosses have used travel time to take calls, review documents uninterrupted, etc etc. If they drove themselves they'd never see their families or get all their work done. And seriously - who enjoys driving in rush hour traffic? If I had the money I'd be chauffeured everywhere too.

Someone also mentioned they found it strange he would be driven in a 911. I don't find this odd at all. SS appeared to have a thing for nice cars so why not? It's just a matter of preference. Most of my bosses have preferred town cars, some liked limos; my last boss was very conscious of the environment and he preferred to be driven around in his Prius. LOL.

JMO and all that.

Point well taken about Executive Assistant salaries, but this guy wasn't at that level, IMO. I would guess he was making around 45-55K, tops.

I don't get the feeling that Driver was an Executive Assistant. From what it appears he was mainly the driver and an assistant who ran the odd errand here and there. I don't get the impression that he was setting and coordinating SS's schedule and sitting in on board or executive meetings, etc.

No, I don't think it sounded like he was either. My post was in reply to a query about salary of "personal driver/assistant". Blurred lines or not, there's a huge difference between the two roles so I split them up and answered as best I could given my experience. I didn't mean to give the impression I thought SS's driver had EA responsibilities, apologies if my post came across that way.

A little trivia: the Mosler MT900 was produced between 2000 and 2011, and during that time only 14 were built!

I loved your post...I figured you were of the same opinion on this...now, how do I get a driver's position with no real corporate experience? I could do that for $75,000. I already drive all over the DC area five or six days a week :D But I don't want to be a Corporate Executive Assistant that's for sure.

The cash was photographed at 9AM. Banks open at 9AM. Pretty tough to swing that....you must be authorized signer and sign card to be escorted to safe deposit box. A bank would never never bend this rule. They don't know what's in your box but you are informed that cash is not permitted to be stored in box. Can't see SS risking being reported for potential laundering being CEO and all....

My husband ("car guy") told me there were only about 200 built.
Considering it cost more than most suburban houses, the market/customer base is probably only a portion of 1% of the population.

I think the money came up short $20,000, and that was the reason for the flurry of calls. Remember W-1 text W-2 a photo of a bag containing $20K. Where was the other $20K?

I was going by what Wikipedia said, lol. 200 isn't that many either.

I take it back. He said there were 200 Moslers built in total. Maybe only 14 of the MT900. My bad. I guess there are other models? Probably like a cheapie version $500,000.

I'd put money on that car belonging to the driver :D
Who would park that Mosler right next to a $20,000 car in an empty parking lot?

FerrariRose: I think your long post (#282) is brilliant! Everything seems spot on with what we've read and seen over the past few days (the only part I think might be off is the idea of the perpetrators possibly being there Wed. morning). We'll have to wait and see how things unfold, but I have a feeling a lot of what you laid out will prove to be the case. I just hope authorities can build a strong case against all of the active participants.

Honestly, I still can't fathom that the economy car in the household was the 2008 Porche 911 turbo Carrera

Thanks, Olive. I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that a neighbor saw a landscaping crew working in the yard Wednesday morning. I wonder if Wint and his accomplices posed as a landscaping crew and that's how they gained entry into the house?

I am suspicious of the driver with him either being in on it somehow or that he stole part of the ransom not knowing what it was for.
