In the many public appeals for information, it was her absent mother Cindy Palmer, who lost her daughter to foster care after a jail stint in 2011, that faced the cameras as the grieving loved one desperately seeking information.
The Thorburns were nowhere to be seen, although their absence was explained by the strict privacy controls that govern foster carers.

Until this week, few in the media even knew their names.

Publicly, many expressed sorrow for them.
In an interview with the Weekend Australian earlier this year, Foster Care Queensland executive director Bryan Smith said the Thorburns had their hands tied by the Child Protection Act, that any public appeal for information they made would put them at risk of prosecution.

How advantageous for the FP to have their hands tied if the wanted perp happens to be one of them. :(

Thank you crabstick, can you tell me how you know this information? What do you mean the lids have a hole? Do we know whether they are the old-fashioned heavy, thick concrete lids, or the new-fangled (and very dangerous apparently) plastic lids that can inadvertently flip over and recover themselves?

Local Council would have guidelines on where to place the tank. Probably in their Development Control Plan.

There's no way William could get in one though. MOO.

It depends on the lid. There have been cases where children have gone into the septic. This story linked just below tells of a little girl in the USA which this happened to. If someone had not seen it happen right then, if say the child had been running on her own without someone right there with her at that second, who knows what the outcome would have been for the girl.

Also, note the case of Noah Thomas, who was found in his home's septic tank a few days after his disappearance when police finally contracted with a local septic company to have it pumped.

These occurrences are rare, sure, but not so rare as the alternative theory of sun and moon colliding the way things are going in the WT case. All I'm advocating for, is for a detective or someone to state uncategorically that FGM's septic was in fact pumped out, and if not, why not, and how about getting that done.

It seems there can be an issue with these newer plastic lids which have several screw holes all around. They aren't always screwed in as they should be. People get lazy, the little plastic things break so that the screws no longer hold anything, and sometimes even bad things have been known to have been done on purpose. These plastic lids can apparently flip if a little one steps on them in just a certain angle it seems, at which time the child can be devoured into a disgusting abyss, and then the lid flips right back on, as if nothing happened; in such an event, if it wasn't eye-witnessed, nobody would be the wiser, and obviously time would be of the essence.

Sorry I'm onto this again, it's one of those things that I haven't been able to let go of, and can't let go until someone who actually *knows for sure*, states that the dang thing was pumped, or if not, what is the excellent reason for why it wasn't, etc. Maybe you guys over there in Oz have something completely different (but I don't think so, since BS's tank was pumped out), which would make it somehow impossible for such an occurrence to happen there, but if so, then please enlighten me, that's all I'm asking. It isn't much to ask, imho.

Where are the news cameras showing FGM's tank being pumped, even with all of those media swarming the home over the days and weeks following his disappearance? They even inadvertently caught BS's work truck apparently on the street several days later when he returned to finally fix that washing machine, which was months before they knew he was a POI. But yet their news cameras didn't catch any septic pumpers at Grandma's house. I can't help thinking the only explanation for that can be because it wasn't *ever* done, and they felt it good enough to just visually 'look', perhaps poke a bit, and send down a small camera into the sludge, all of which just wouldn't cut it. It's like a $200-$300USD expenditure to get a pump truck out. SPEND THE MONEY. I'm sure millions of people would even donate the money! Then at least they could say they did it and the results were negative and my little brain could rest on that. Also... what of the neighbours and *their* septics, but considering that WT was said by his FPs to NOT be a wanderer, I doubt if he would have landed all the way onto a neighbouring property, considering the size of these semi rural lots, and I guess I could forgive if all of those neighbours were not pumped out, but I guess one never knows. Just saying at the *very* least, please tell me that FGM's was PUMPED. Okay, rant over (again, for now). Thank you.

'Every one of the 21 houses in the exclusive estate around the grandmother’s house have been searched from top to bottom twice, including roof cavities and septic tanks.

Yes, absolutely, but... define 'searched', and where are the photos of the septic pumping trucks? Or the quotes from detectives or homeowners saying their septics were *pumped*?

Edited to add that 'searching' a septic is vastly different from searching a roof cavity, a basement, etc. It must be *pumped* out.

Someone loosely tied to William ( kids previously with speddings) has gone incredibly quiet for almost a month now .

I can understand how they (LE) would not have wanted to contract with a septic-pumping company to pump out each of the 21 properties in the tiny subdivision, because to be effective, each truck would have to be cleaned out ahead of time and each property's septic contents would have to be analyzed individually. Probably a huge expense. But please, can we at least have proof that it was pumped at FGM's home?

From sm posts every day to nada around time reward offered. Probably nothing but you never know

Wasn't the reward only offered about a week ago? I guess it is almost 2 weeks now, but did you notice this a month ago, or 2 weeks ago?

I don't know what else to tell you except to contact investigators with your concerns.

It's chocolate, cuddling up on the couch with cats and comedy night for me. Night all...

Huge coincidence if it's not . . . I don't see how it can not be. I can't find his case in the County Court lists, but perhaps the information's been suppressed.

It certainly sounds a familiar tale, however IMO not BS. .. This person was living in and extradtdited from NT

Thanks Bo for the poo links.

Deugirtni, I'm no septic tank expert but from what I have seen in NSW the septic tank lids are big heavy concrete tops or halves (see image in my post above and Peddo's tank below). Some would be buried with grass over top, so no chance of 'flipping' over without obvious soil disturbance. William probably weighed 10-15kg. Lid maybe 50kg. Tanks are placed away from trees, which in the case of Bennaroon is a large lawn regularly slashed with a ride on mower. The mower dude would know the surface lid location, or if the subterranean lid had been disturbed.

As far as "septic tanks were searched", this would be a case by case basis. If a tank looked damaged or the soil and grass looked disturbed then that's cause for a real close inspection. On the other hand if the lid was buried under soil and grass (or ornamental garden bed) and appeared intact then no need to dig it up.

Speddo's tank was drained because that would be a good place to hide a body, as was his fire place.

Image below is Spedding tank pumped. See the huge lid.

Thank you for your reply. If it makes sense to pump BS's septic because it's a good place to hide a body, then why would it not be a good place to look for a body on the actual property from where the boy went missing, I wonder? On 21 properties in the tiny subdivision, if the septic lid is hidden under the grass, and the grass does not *appear* to be recently tampered with, that is not good enough, imho.... because as we all know, a piece of sod/grass can be cut out of a lawn, and then placed right back on, and it would be difficult to tell, or notice. And not all lids are that huge as the one in the photo above. And... even if the lids in the development *are* big huge heavy concrete ones which would be impossible for WT to get off by himself, to NOT check it would mean that detectives have completely discounted the possibility that someone else could have done that FOR him. And wouldn't that indicate tunnel vision? JMO

Yes only noticed recently, could be a number of reasons for not being sm active for some time but just putting it out there.
