House, outbuildings, 10 acres with some of that swampland and if I remember correctly, a small lake. There's no way they searched all of that "thoroughly " within 8hrs. JMO

Katelin travels from Arizona to visit family in Virginia

Evening
She visited old friends from high school, a couple, they drank, they invited her to sleep it off at their apartment, things happened, took her back to her mom's house the next morning.
Saturday Dec 5 2015
11 am to 12 pm?
Katelin’s mother (Lisa Sullivan) drops her off at her stepfather's home in Spotsylvania County, *so he can take Katelin to Reagan National Airport: she is supposed to catch a 5:40 p.m. flight to Las Vegas.
1:00 pm
Step dad said he dropped Katelin off about 1 pm at the JC Penney Store Springfield Mall, LE states there are 2 cameras there, neither Katelin, the step dad nor the Jeep were ever spotted.
1:52 pm
Step dad sent the text to Katelin's mom that he had dropped her off.
2:00 pm
Lisa receives a text [I'm at the airport. Battery dying so won't be able to text for a bit]
THIS by her phone records was when the phone pinged 50 miles away, within 5 miles of where her luggage was found.
3:00 pm
Step dad stated he had to be at work. LE verified with his employer, he did not come in to work, he had called in/out/off.
Step dad's phone (all his devices) showed he never left his home.

Katelin’s luggage found discarded in a drainage ditch in the 6600 block of River Road near Fredericksburg - not far from the Fall Hill intersection n Spotsylvania County which is roughly 50 miles from the airport. NONE of Katelin's clothes, her phone nor her prized diploma were found with her suitcase. Her wallet, debit cards, toothbrush, phone charger, etc were with the suitcase. The suitcase appeared to have been 'thrown' from a vehicle, it had a broken wheel. (Disappeared)

LE received a SW and spent 8+ hours searching the house, grounds, swampland and forensic exam of the vehicles. Nothing was found. (Disappeared)

I think the episode said the event with friends was two days before she was supposed to leave. Which would have been a thursday ,then she stayed there until friday and was taken to her moms house on friday . I might be mistaken .

I'll add a couple things/corrections- In the Disappeared episode, it stated Katelin was dropped off around 9 am by Mom to SF's house. Also, Katelin's fiance received a text around 2 pm, around the same time Mom got a text saying she was at the airport, stating she wouldnt be going back to Arizona

Well there's what we know. SD never took her to the airport and both his texts and her texts came from his home and near where her luggage was found. No way she took off on her own, or her SD would have said that. No reason for him to lie unless he's responsible for her disappearance. They found her suitcase and everything but her clothes, phone and diploma were in it. So either she's with her clothing, which would suggest to me that she's being held somewhere on his property in a hole, or her clothing was used to clean up and burned along with her diploma. I believe her phone was used a diversion to mislead LE, family and friends and then disposed of. There is absolutely no reason for him to have misled LE and her friends and family with his text unless he was guilty of her disappearance. I'd love to know why they divorced, why his first marriage didn't work out and why he changed his middle name.

There was a time when I would have thought that this is a ridiculous suggestion but it is not at all. In light of several cases of missing girls being found in underground rooms etc., this is highly plausible.
You make an excellent point about her clothes being with her and that she could be held somewhere.

I just watched the Disappeared episode yesterday. Did it seem odd to anyone else that police were staking out her family, friends, and areas she might frequent to see if she'd surface? It was like the police didn't want to deal with the idea foul play or a crime being committed. Katelin seemed like she was close to her family. If you're going to run away why dump your suitcase and keep your clothes? Dumping your wallet maybe, tossing a cellphone - okay. If you are going to travel even by hitchhiking you need to be able to carry your clothes and other belongings. It doesn't sound like she got very far from the ex SD's place. It's just sad and seems like she was treated like a runaway instead of a victim of a crime. jmho

Besides, we know that her SD didn't take her anywhere. He sent a text to her mother saying he had dropped her off at the mall, but the text was sent from his home. And the texts she sent to her mother that said she was at the airport and her phone was dying was also sent from his home. Why would he text her mother that he had dropped her off at the mall when he was still in his house? Doesn't make any sense. And you're right, why take your clothes out of your suitcase and leave your suitcase behind? What is she doing, carrying her clothing in her arms?

I'm curious if the text to Amber was closer to the disappeared version, or more vague like discussed in previous threads. While I agree with everyone about Katelin's likely fate, I can picture SD sending more plain texts - but a message about the potential cheating incident? That seems less likely to me. How would he know?
The show made it seem like they only searched the house in Partlow. SD has another house he rents out which is super close to Spotsylvania Mall. I wonder if he had tenants during that time? Or if that house was searched?
I agree- 8 hours is not nearly enough time to go over 10 acres. Especially if you are looking for tiny clues.

At 29:00 the show states that the detective has reason to believe stepdad is withholding info or is being less than truthful. If you need it spelled out that he is a POI, there you go.

This is what I was thinking almost 100%. I'm also thinking it is possible he saved her clothes as some sort of sick memento or something and has them hiding somewhere. But without question I believe what you said about the phones. The texts from around 2 pm and on were not from Katelin, and they were used as a diversion tactic.
