Thousands Attend Funeral for Slain Bowie State Student

The Bowie State University student fatally stabbed just days before his graduation was remembered Friday as an "outstanding" man who wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.

Thousands of people attended the funeral for 2nd Lt. Richard Collins III at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Upper Marlboro.

Rev. Darryl Godlock, a spokesman for Collins's family, described the 23-year-old as an "outstanding" and "highly intelligent" man who wanted to follow in his father's footsteps in the military.

Collins' father saluted his son's casket.

Collins' father told NBC News he was in shock.

"I'm in no place to feel very many emotions beside sadness and just a deep sense of personal loss," he said.

Accused Killer of Black Soldier Liked Pro-Trump, Pro-White Memes

The University of Maryland student accused of stabbing a black U.S. Army lieutenant to death apparently liked memes about Donald Trump, white supremacy, and the alt-right.

Sean Urbanski, 22, allegedly killed Richard Collins III on campus early Saturday morning. Collins, 23, was visiting friends, the Baltimore Sun reported, when witnesses told police that Urbanski told him to move out of the way. When Collins did not, Urbanski allegedly stabbed him.

One post he liked was titled: Trump isn’t lying that hispanics are taking the land away and that times are bad...” The post included several graphics claiming the white race was dying at the hands of minorities.

“Uh oh here come the Hispanics saying it was their land first,” Urbanski commented.

and this is what the alt right has given a voice to. disgusting. this was a soldier as well. eerily silent, I hear nothing in our algorithm modified news about this.
This is sickening.

NAACP wants FBI to rule that race was a factor in fatal U. Md. stabbing

“We’d really like the FBI to rule it as a hate crime, because that’s what it is,” said Bob Ross, president of the Prince George’s County chapter of the NAACP, during a news conference Tuesday outside the Prince George’s County Administration Building.
...
“You see a black student stabbed by a white student, you can’t just automatically rule out race without fully investigating more,” said Yanet Amanuel, who graduated last week from the University of Maryland.

From the University of Maryland

The unprovoked murder of 2nd Lt. Richard Collins III shook the campus communities of Bowie State University and the University of Maryland, as well as the country. Now being investigated as a possible hate crime, this tragedy has changed us all.

It is incumbent on all of us to stand up and fight racism, extremism and hate. They are cancers in our body politic.

Indictment delivered in homicide of Bowie State student

Collins was fatally stabbed in what has been described as a completely unprovoked attack. Sean Urbanski, 22, was indicted on murder charges, even though a motive remains uncertain.

"After we have reviewed all the devices, if the facts, as we find, them meet the hate crime element, and so far based on what we have, we continue to investigate. We didn't have enough today," Prince George's State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said.

Man indicted on murder charge in "unprovoked" fatal stabbing of Md. student

The Prince George's County Office of the State's Attorney said in a statement Thursday that a grand jury indicted Sean Urbanski on one count of murder in the death of Richard Collins III.

"This was an unprovoked attack and we believe that Mr. Urbanski should face the highest possible penalty allowed by state law for his actions," said Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.

U-Md. student to face hate-crime charge in fatal stabbing on campus

A white University of Maryland student accused of fatally stabbing a black student who was visiting the campus has been charged with a hate crime after authorities reviewed his phone and social media activity, prosecutors said.

A Prince George’s County grand jury on Tuesday handed up the hate-crime charge against Sean Urbanski, who already faced a murder count in the May slaying of Richard Collins III.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks declined to say exactly what evidence of an alleged racial motive was found. But she said federal and local law enforcement officials have been sifting through Urbanski’s phone and other digital devices, as well as his social media activity, and uncovered “lots of digital evidence.” She said Collins’s killing was “unjustified and premeditated.”
